Mollom Has Been Ditched

I've ditched the Mollom spam filtering module that we were experimenting with. While it did block some spam over and above the bots we catch with reCapctha (used on account signups) we had users getting false positives and being blocked from posting. Unfortunately, Mollom is a closed-loop service with no ability to train it when it's wrong, which makes it pretty useless for our purposes. It's far better to let a few spammers through and have us mods deal with it than to block legitimate content without any way of fixing the situation.

If i use the portable apps like Firefox and Chrome will they leave any registry into the System i am working , since that can be issue for me if they do scan of registry or system for any unauthenticated systems. Please confirm .

I've enabled new forum badges for all users. I've made them a bit less intrusive than before. I also enabled the ability to display multiple badges. They all have hover titles and link back to the Team page with more of an explanation of what a moderator, translator, etc are. I added a translator badge but haven't gone through and enabled it on all accounts yet. You can see my 3 in this post. To see all 4, see one of Marko's recent posts here: https://portableapps.com/node/23795

Mollom Issues

How's Mollom working out here?

If anyone doesn't know yet, the PortableApps.com forum is submitting posts to a third party to be machine-analyzed for spam, namely Mollom. When you go to make a post or even just a reply, there's a new link that says "By submitting this forum, you accept the Mollom privacy policy". Clicking the link basically explains what they're doing. In a nutshell, they'll save your post for two months with personally identifiable information, then for another 2 years without it.

So, using an application from IObit called IObit Toolbox, you can add programs to the toolbox by simple pulling the .exe into the "tools" directory of the toolbox app which is portable by the way, good stuff. By following a simple naming scheme, like dragging sysinternals page defrag and renaming it Suo14_PageDefrag.exe (Suo14=System Utility-Optimization 14 where as Sur would stand for System Utility-Repair).

Chrome Portable History

Submitted by MFLesses on July 20, 2010 - 3:29pm

Websites opened in Chrome from desktop icons in Windows 7 do not show up in history when a website is opened in Chrome Portable, and websites opened in Chrome Portable do not show in history when a website is opened in Chrome. Is this supposed to happen? Is this also the case with Windows XP?

Apparently, the desktop icons speak with non-portable Chrome only. Is there a way to change this?
