Run-As-Administrator rights for Portable Apps

Submitted by John Wayne Goodin on August 31, 2010 - 6:50am

I'm running Windows 7 32-Bit on my new laptop and have problems launching most portable apps regardless if they come from here or are other portable apps.

If I do a standard startup they claim I don't have rights to use the registry. I have to right click and choose Run-As-Administrator.

The program does launch but shows noting. I have to kill the process in 'Task Manager' manually.

"Check For Updates" Bug - Edit: Solved

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on August 31, 2010 - 6:06am

Everytime I use the autoupdate this shows up:

"PortableApps.com AppCompactor 2.0.1"

I've tried to go through with the update several times, i.e. keeping the box checked and have it download and install, but it still shows up every time I "Check For Updates".

I've uninstalled AppCompactor, and made sure the folder was deleted from the "PortableApps" folder on my drive, yet it still shows up when checking for updates.

I've even unplugged the drive after uninstalling AppCompactor and next time I plug my drive in and check for updates...

"PortableApps.com AppCompactor 2.0.1"

OpenOffice4Kids Portable issue

Submitted by JeffNeedle on August 31, 2010 - 1:55am

A special build of OpenOffice, called OpenOffice4kids, is now available. It's a simplified version of OpenOffice, with more accessible icons, etc., designed to help kids getting involved in OpenOffice.

I downloaded the app, and installed it into a folder with my other portable apps. The OO4Kids folder contains a single executable, from which the components are opened.

Adding files to a paf.exe

Submitted by NeghVar on August 30, 2010 - 8:16pm

I have been using portableapps installer to create installers for various programs. All it does is create the app info and copies that and the exe to the flashdrive. I have installed numerous programs which require extra dll's to run. I hav copied them into the folder manually and it works then. I want to know if their is a way to add the extra files to the installer so that I do not have to continually manually copy the extra files into the portable app folder

Install *Everything* ability?

Submitted by nmanguy on August 27, 2010 - 2:16am

Hey everyone, it's been a while, but it looks like there's a crapload of apps now. So... does anyone know a fast way to install everything into the suite? It would literally take hours to install it all manually, and the "Standard" suite version only has 10 apps or so.

I looked at the 2.0 beta updater, but it seems to only update the apps you've already installed, and not actually install new ones.

Couldn't get audio and video Flash files to playback in Poodle

Hi,
I downloaded Poodle and created some quizzes for offline use in a computer lab.
When I copied Poodle into the local harddisks in the lab PCs, and ran my Moodle quiz, I found that I could not see my audio or video files (audio was mp3 and video was flv formats, respectively)
When I was creating these quizzes on my own PC, I could view these files and there were NO ISSUES viewing, listening and playing them back.
This only occurred when I transferred the whole Thumbdrive Poodle data into another PC.
