I saw this on lifehacker, and thought you folks might be interested in it.

Panda will create a password protected autorun.inf file so viruses cannot modify it.

I don't know how well this works, or weather I could screw up portableapps as I use linux and haven't tested. But its something to look into, and maybe even make a portableapps spinoff of it?

Looking for a tool to format a disk without admin privilages

Submitted by indivisible on February 11, 2010 - 11:28am

Hey,

I've been using the site and its apps for a while and want to firstly say thanks. I have a 16Gb Kingston DataTraveller that has been travelling around with me for a few months. Everything was going fine until a few days ago after connecting the OS can't read the filesystem.
Formatting is not an issue as I've been uploading periodic backups to my own webspace. However, I can't format the disk without administrator privileges using standard windows means (from the dialogue that prompts after a failed read or in console). No permissions for disk manager.

Grab audio track from Youtube videos.

What is the proper way to grab the audio track directly from Youtube videos with free software? Preferably without decoding/encoding. I want to listen to them on my portable music player.

I guess I shall do it with Audacity? But I will need to install a codec for that too.

I can download the videos from Youtube by the Firefox plugin Flashgot. It saves files in *.flv. Is it the native format or is it a container?

Ps. I pressed "Mark all topics read" by accident. How to mark them again unread?

Marking Spam

I know it's not a huge problem here generally, but is there a way for us commoners to flag spam so that the moderators can quickly search for and remove spam? I'm thinking for example of replying to a spam post with a subject of something like "****SPAM****". Is this even necessary?

Just a suggestion.

Downloads Blocked to Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria

As some of our users discovered, about two weeks ago, SourceForge.net (which hosts all our open source software), began blocking downloads from IP addresses in Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria. This is due to those countries being on the United States Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanction list.
