Submitted by ukwebsolution on December 26, 2009 - 11:36am

Hi,

I have visited [link to illegal site removed by mod JTH] & was wondering if they were linked with your website? also they have a load of good apps on there that isn't on here, maybe you should get the same as them, they have things like photoshop & illustrator which you don't have, i was wondering if you were thinking of uploading them?

Thanx,
Charlie

device issues

Submitted by kbt.przemek on December 25, 2009 - 5:16pm

Hi guys,

Ive just bought eee pc 1008ha and I straight away looked for some portable apps and here is my major issue:

Will SD card (i dont want usb stick) will be faster than my 2,5" 250gb hdd?
and if it were, is it worth buying more expensive 20/20 write/read card? than for example decent Transcend 12/18 write/read card? and how is it all in consideration of my eeepc card reader?

I'll appreciate every help Smile

sync drive on insert?

Submitted by adoucette on December 24, 2009 - 2:01pm

Is there a (free) way to have the USB drive with my PortableApps install automatically synchronize folders when it is inserted into my home computer?
I know that Toucan could do this with an autorun script, but this would not work with newer OS's like Windows 7. I also know that SyncBack SE can do this, but it coasts $30 or so.
Is there free a program I could install on my home computer to accomplish this sync when a particular USB drive is inserted?

Thanks,
Ari

Thunderbird 3.0 / download/ Restored Settings gone

Submitted by Evan_1234 on December 22, 2009 - 6:28pm

I recently upgraded to Thunderbird 3.0. When I restarted Thunderbird, it froze and slowed to a halt when trying to index. I restored my settings to a day earlier. However, when I try to open Thunderbird it does not work. It looks as if it is trying but nothing ever appears.
I would like to get my old settings, addresses and messages but I don't know how.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you,
R

Suggestion: Theme Gallery

Submitted by xlegs on December 22, 2009 - 3:49pm

I think that it is in PA.c's best interests to make a PAM theme gallery, something like Google Chromes gallery (thumbnails, name, and a link for a larger preview and download).

Obviously the PAM 2.0 needs to come out. I think that an addition like this would make it better known that PAM can be customized.

I understand that most resources behind this site is devoted to other (and arguably more important) things, but this may become increasingly important as PA.c becomes more mainstream.

nsis help: redirect APPDATA

Submitted by agdurrette on December 22, 2009 - 12:14am

Gluxon looked at the code and we both are getting errors. I'm going going to post on the HandBrake forum and see what I can find out what to do about the errors. If I cant figure out what to do I have two other choices I can do to make it work Move the folders in appdata (I rather not do that in case the computer get turned off or the usb gets unplugged ) Or I can make a patch for HandBrake to make it portable.

Rackspace outage covered on PC World

Since PortableApps.com is so vocal about Rackspace on Twitter, I figured this link might come in handy: http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/185171/rackspace_outage_ha...

Maybe you guys might have a comment or two, I'm sure Rackspace would be concerned if some of their customers commented on the blog (might even be a good way to plug PortableApps.com at the same time).

Personas?

I was looking at Thunderbird addons (I can't believe something as simple as File->Subscribe was the whole reason I couldn't run TB for a whole year...) I noticed Personas. And I thought (5 minutes ago), the PAM could use Personas. It would solve nearly every single gripe about theming it, including resizing (just grab a different sized persona) and complexity (just make a pic of a certain size). It'd be a good goal for PAM 3.0...
