As today is "I love Free Software" - Day, I wanted to say a big
"Thank You"
to all the developers here, especially to the founder, lead dev and hopefully recovering John T. Haller!
Although mobile apps, smartphones and tablets are booming tremendously, the last years have seen a steady increase in users who rely on portable apps every day.(at least thats what I read into the mounting download numbers and increasing load on this site ;))

Hi guys!
First of all: Enjoy deleting this post Smile I do not mind. And I still thank you for the work you made.

When I saw Portable APPs manager first I told myself: WOW! After using it I found AWKWARD behaviours, features and points which could be improved. I mean improved with small effort with big result value.

How to automatically update the apps without confirming?

Submitted by Dirki on February 6, 2013 - 4:45am

How can I let the apps automatically update without to have to confirm anything. So, e.g. when PortApps starts or after a special time it automatically shall look for updates and update all apps automatically.

How could I avoid these captchas on this forum? And why do members have to fill out captchas here?

Some newbie-questions

Hi all,

Just installed PortableApps on my USB-stick. It looks good!

There are some things i couldn't find so quickly, only old topics or it's not clear for me.

  • Is it easy to add own portable but paid software? I use the Pro-version of NoteCase and i like to integrate it.
  • Can i easily ad a shortcut to the startmenu?
  • Is there a searchbar available for the startmenu like the windows-startmenu?
  • And, last but not least, how can i quickly register portable programs on a computer?

Secure copy of ./Data files

Submitted by farat_as on February 3, 2013 - 5:48pm

Hi,

I will copy /Data folder from my USB drive (E:\) to another local drive(F:\).

Is there any problem if I copy them with this command (example with Listary):

xcopy "E:\PortableApps\FILES\BACKUP DATA\ListaryPortable\Data" "F:\PortableApps\PortableApps\ListaryPortable\Data" /S /E /I /Q /H /K

Someone told me that I should use /O /X parameters which are:

/O Copies file ownership and ACL information.
/X Copies file audit settings (implies /O).
