Workaround?

Submitted by arinlares on December 14, 2008 - 8:04pm

I'm new to PortableApps.com, but I've been learning about this software, and switched after I heard U3 was being discontinued for StartKey. Anyway, I asked the developer for MilkyTracker, and was told i could just extract the Windows Unicode archive into the PortableApps folder (PortableApps\MilkyTracker), and it worked. I tried it with another program, same result. Granted, i'm still waiting to hear from the developer of the second program about registries and such, but it did work.

more portable than portableapps - storage on server

Submitted by rafi on December 14, 2008 - 1:53pm

Hello

intro:
(Today is a bad day. My whole external harddisc is broken. This is the 4th time in my life an external hdd broke, but its my fault. 2 times fall down and 2 times wrong voltage.....

On this hdd i had a whole portableapps environment.

So today i will order a corsair 64gb flash drive
)

but i thought to be more portable and more free than only by using portableapps.
For example the program keypass. Its really a good programm but i used it only for internet passwords. so i installed
phppassmanager on my server for store my passwords.

Silverlight (for Netflix)

Submitted by joem86 on December 13, 2008 - 5:43pm

I created a new topic for this because the general consensus for Silverlight was that it was only for MS sites. Now that Netflix uses Silverlight for their movie viewer I'd like to install it onto my flash drive so I can use it with my FF portable. Has anyone tried this?

Thanks,
Joe

Right click on programs in portable apps menu

Submitted by thegreyspot on December 12, 2008 - 1:49pm

Hello everybody!!
I'm just wondering if you think this suggestion is a good idea.
I would like to have a right click menu on the apps in the portable apps menu. It should have the options of delete program and remove from list. That would be really nice because, for example, spybot has lots of programs apart from the main console. I would like to be able to remove the ones I dont use from the list but leave the main console shortcut still there. Do you understand what I mean?

Thanks!

Best Practice for upgrading individual apps?

Submitted by aahhaa on December 10, 2008 - 8:48pm

Hi All...

I was just in the process of new install for the PA suite, had finished the Clamwin defs update and had just opened Sunbird when it informed me that the 0.9 Sunbird update was available... did I want to download and install?

It isn't clear to me what the flashdrive apps look like to the 'outside net'.
For example, should I let Sunbird use its own updater, or wait & download a portable .9 from here?
What if there is a same version Sunbird also installed on the host computer? Any chance of mucking it up?

Programing Languages

Submitted by infoseeker on December 10, 2008 - 8:21pm

Just wondering if there are any portable Programing languages out there? I know there are windows versions of just about all open source languages. How hard would it be to make them portable? Would love to get my hands on a portable version of mono or ruby.
