Ok, as a followup to the Release Team I proposed, I think we all have a handle on it now. Now we need members. We needs folks with experience with portable apps who know what to look for. We're going to be establishing some testing guidelines as a community (primarily centered around the PortableApps.com Format Spec and the Installer plus testing for leave-behinds).

Ceedo--Showing portable apps shortcuts and possibly the file in the menu

Submitted by Msingh32 on September 22, 2008 - 2:16pm

For all the Ceedo and Portable Apps lovers, I figured out how to make Portable Apps show up on the Ceedo Mini bar at the bottom and on the menu. Its really simple.

First extract the portable app you want on to the Ceedo USB drive. Then copy that folder to

X:\Ceedo\User\Start Menu\Programs

Secret is ur drive letter.

Then if you want to show a shortcut on the bar itself, just make a shortcut by right-clicking and click on create shortcut. After that copy that into:

X:\Ceedo\User\Desktop.

Win+P shortcut key used in Windows 7

The following URL shows a screenshot of Windows 7 with the shortcut key to bring up Portable Apps in use for connecting to a projector.

I know Windows 7 is a while away from release, but IMO the sooner you know about something the better. It might be a good idea to allow disabling the shortcut key in future versions of Portable Apps, ready for when Windows 7 is released. Configuring it to an alternative combination would be even better.

I had an idea to use the apps from PortableApps.com with with Live Mesh and it works great! Install a portable application once and run it from any computer in your Mesh. I created a screencast with more details:
