Unable to Develop

My dad took away the computer I put all my development stuff on (and put it in his room...), so I won't be able to work on anything until he gives it back (or leaves to work at CVS on Thursdays }:)). Sorry...
BTW, does anyone know why my SMPlayer launcher doesn't work on Vista? (It works fine on XP...).

Just a quick update so everyone is in the loop. We have several updates waiting in the wings including OpenOffice.org in all languages (big thanks to Marko), WinMerge (courtesy of Ryan), CoolPlayer+ (NeoRame) as well as ClamWin, Notepad++ and VirtualDub (me). But these are on hold until tomorrow afternoon as I put the finishing touches on Firefox 3.0.

App to Remove USB Drive

Submitted by Decker87 on June 16, 2008 - 11:38am

Hi. I have written a little AutoIT Script to have the program RemoveDrive eject the drive safely, after closing the portable apps menu. There is a screenshot here.
I hope someone else can also find it useful, so I uploaded the zip file to megaupload.com. Just unzip it to your PortableApps driectory. Download it here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=DT0UMMSB

Portable PDF Editor

Submitted by mvieira on June 16, 2008 - 11:22am

Hello All,

Wondering if anyone was aware of a utility that allowed actual editing of the contents of a PDF file. I have already looked at PDFTK Builder and while a great app, it does not allow modification of text or graphics within the pdf file.

Suggestions appreciated!! Thanks!!

my Partitioned USB stick shows up as 2 drives

A while ago I Partitioned my USB stick using some tool that was able to change some things on the USB stick. Using my Windows 2000 I needed to install some driver before those partitions were recognized by the system.

Today I plugged the USB stick into a Windows XP machine and to my amazement the USB stick showed up as 2 different drive letters in explorer. Great for those who like to partition their USB stick. I have tried it on an XP with SP2 and one with SP3.

Restrict USB Stick Access to PortableApps

Submitted by joergstein on June 14, 2008 - 8:47am

Hi,
I want to restrict the access to my files on the USB stick to applications started from the stick. Background: In a internet cafe I don't want to expose my data to a utility on the computer copying my data from the stick. Even with an encrypted drive any application has access to my data as soon as I opened the drive. Any idea?

Portable Apps for the Blind

Submitted by billclewis2 on June 13, 2008 - 1:21pm

Let me qualify my question, before the guffaws, begin.

While I have used computers since the late '80's I have never used portable apps or burned video files to cd or DVD. It is evident even to me the value they now express in our mobile lives.

I have an aging, partially blind mother and other friends that can only read with the aid of projectors/enlargers of books. They all have a love of reading and it is heart rending to see their loss.
