Internet Explorer Portable.

Submitted by Yroark on May 20, 2008 - 12:35pm

Just for laughs I copied my Internet Explorer folder from my programs folder to my portable apps drive. It ran fine on the three machines I tested. Granted those three machines were all either Windows XP or Vista and had the same version of IE installed.

I realize that IE isn't open source but I thought it was worth mentioning for those of us that use Internet Explorer and not Firefox.

Version Control System

Submitted by JPedrosa on May 20, 2008 - 9:32am

Hi there.

i use apps from PortableApps.com for a long time now.
and i find myself, monthly or something close to that, looking for all the apps to check out new versions of it.

this is not easy (well it's not too complex either, but could be better)

so here is what i was thinking.

during the unzip of the app, you maybe could write somewhere the version of the app (ex: Pidgin\2.4.1.ver)

then the StartPortableApps.exe could read this on the start up, and check on the website for new versions.

is this too far complex than it seems?
just does not make sense?

Other questions about Spyware in Usb Drive

Submitted by clemente21 on May 20, 2008 - 12:29am

Hi there, sorry to ask about simple same issue in new thread, but I have other problem. I picked each pictures of usb drives and delivery to new file in PC and i cleaned up my usb driver. I scanned my college virus called "Symantec Anti-virus" on the usb drive. nothing infected like spy ware or virus but there is one file and other program that i can't delete. I deleted both and it came back again. It's a folder "Recycler" and other "autorun.inf"

What is this for? The folders are hidden..I never seen it before.

[spam] Qooda.com forum spammer

Now businesses in every industry move more data in an afternoon one day than they once did in one year. And with the economic globalization, they do more business with the foreign countries. In fact, the research reports show that it doubles every year. This places tremendous strain on IT system—especially those tasked with moving, securing, and storing the information.
Most organizations have faced common challenges. How do I share my information with my partners or units abroad? How do I make sure it’s secure? Can I transfer large files? Can I make this process more efficient?

SPYWARE IN MY USB DRIVE

Submitted by clemente21 on May 18, 2008 - 10:09pm

I apologize if it's in wrong section. My mom's computer got attacked with spy ware and she have bunch of pictures she doesn't want to lost. Lucky I had my usb drive with me, so I load the pictures in it and I reinstalled window XP. Everything look like a factory setting which was so great. Then I unload the pictures off my usb drive to my mom's computer. Spy ware attacked again. It's obviously it was in my usb drive. How can I clean the spyware in my usb drive? I have millions college documents in it and can't afford to lose.

winzip replacement

Submitted by DamnSpaceTravel on May 18, 2008 - 1:26pm

Now i know that you guys love 7zip and peazip for their archiving abilities, but i extraxt more .zip files than i create. I'm not a programmer or anything, but i use portable apps a lot to do work on different computers (school, home, laptop, etc.), and so maybe i just can't figure it out, but here's my problem: i haven't been able to succesfully extract any .zips using either of these two programs.

Site Upgrade Status: Drupal 6 (2008-05-17)

The site is back up after the Drupal 6 upgrade, but it will be slow while the cache and search indexes are rebuilt. The forums, in particular, will be quite slow. A couple things are disabled (forum stats, for instance) and a couple things will look visually odd for a bit (recent posts, table headers, page links), but these things should be resolved later today.
