Portable application compatible with Exchange?

Submitted by BillDrew on May 9, 2006 - 4:31pm

Can anyone suggest a good open source e-mail client that I could install
as a portable application on my jump drive that would work with
Microsoft Exchange? I tried Thunderbird and it doesn't work well with
it. I can use Firefox with IE tabs to get to the web version of Outlook
but I would like to avoid that. Something that could import my
contacts, calendar, tasks would be great!

Portable JRE?

Submitted by mjpatey on May 7, 2006 - 9:53pm

Hello, Group-

I just wanted to put in a formal request for a portable version of the Java Runtime Environment. I use Portable Firefox while at work, and am unable to access content that requires Java (OK, mostly games!)

The computers at work don't have the JRE installed, and no one has administrative privileges except the IT department (who has indicated they're not planning to install the JRE on any systems).

Anyone else want portable Java, or know of any existing portable versions?

PocketDivXEncoder!! IS IT PORTABLE!?

Submitted by nova_seph on May 7, 2006 - 12:03pm

I've just found out this cool app. It's a PocketVideo encoder, it err...encodes video files to a format suitable to many PDAs or HandHelds. I just downloaded it and saw it was just an executable, didn't write anything to the app folder, don't know about registry, can someone check if it's truly portable?

Portable Mirc client

Submitted by johndoe2k4 on May 5, 2006 - 3:01pm

Hi,

I think that there should be a portable IRC client. I personally love Mirc because it has a very powerful scripting language and it is easy to create add-ons. I have already created my own "portable" version of Mirc that I use daily. It also has a relatively small footprint (about 3 MB). There is no installer necessary and I have configured a few options to keep the footprint as small as possible ( Such as disabling logging of chats, and prompting for location to save files to when downloading).

I have a question though about this. Mirc is shareware software. After 30 days it displays nagware to register but you can continue using it.That won't be a problem as far as this site is concerned is it ?

A portable app to sync files between computer and usb

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on May 5, 2006 - 7:38am

i just started using portable apps.. some of the apps like firefox and thunderbird have default setting changed(like no email address added to addressbook on mail send or no history for web addresses) to reduce number of writes to usb.

Can I have a portable app that I can use to sync files between computer and usb. So when I start working in office I run the sync app and all the usb data is copied to the computer. I use this portable apps from my computer so I dont need to reduce number of writes. When I am done I sync the folder to update any changed files to the usb. I take my usb home and do the same sequence. This way I reduce the number of writes. The app could have an option to delete files securily from the computer after sync( useful when working from a shared pc).
