Windows Explorer substitute

Submitted by JMody on November 1, 2006 - 4:25am

Id like to see something that would get around using windows explorer to use or browse files on my thumb drive. My work has explorer password protected so i am unable to get into any of the stuff i have on there. Firefox 2 portable, etc. They dont allow us to go online here and the thumb drives are the only way we can get around that. but i still would like to view my files. winguard pro 2006 is the program they use to lock us out.

Inkscape

Submitted by ianweller on October 31, 2006 - 10:33am

I'd like to see Inkscape created as a portable app for Windows. I personally don't have the time or tools to create this, so anyone with free time on their hands -- this would be really nice. There's already one out there for the Mac, but I need one for Windows, too.

Thanks. -- ian

Does anyone know if there is any idea of making this portable?
This i think would be a highly popular product to make portable. I have myself been asked by lots of people if this can be made portable. Mercora is used my tens of thousands of users at a time, a highly used product.

MP3's from music DVD's?

I'm looking for an application that will allow me to extract the "music tracks" (chapters) from the music DVD's that I own and save them into an audio format so that I can play them on my MP3 player.

I searched the forums and didn't find anything. Is there a portable or non-portable application that will do this?

Portable GTK+

Submitted by DevAnubis on October 30, 2006 - 6:11am

Just a thought, but wouldn't it be simpler to have a separate "App" for the GTK+ libraries which people can download and carry around, and which other portable apps can run from instead of having separate GTK+ copies for each App (I'm thinking Gaim and GIMP here).

yes, 4Mb isn't a lot of space, but it can make a difference.

just a though.

thanks for all the great apps John!

Encryption

Submitted by bretz5 on October 29, 2006 - 11:17pm

I just thought it would be cool for you to produce a portable encryption program that would build a self decrypting executable file with an option to place the file where the originator of the exe file wants the file decrypted. The program also could build multiple self decrypting executable files within the main exe file. The self decrypting executable file had all sorts of options like replacing the original exe with the file you just decrypted.
I do not know if you were familiar with a program called Stronghold made by Mc Afee. It was a cool program that was designed for Win 3.1 95 and 98. but will not run on XP.

IceWeasel

Submitted by baxattack on October 29, 2006 - 8:15pm

Hi-I just learned about IceWeasel and would like to request help in making a portable version for testing. Being able to test portable Firefox RC's was great! It enabled me to view it, see the changes and point out the differences between Firefox and IE 7, making it easy to introduce it to students-most of whom fell in love with Firefox right away.

Since it is based on Firefox the natural assumption is that making a portable version would be easy, but making assumptions can be tricky.

Thanks.

RealPlayer

Submitted by GAMEchief on October 28, 2006 - 4:23pm

I'd like to have RealPlayer Portable, 'cause I use my portable apps on computers where I can't install programs, so I can't play my RAM and RM files.
