Portable Linux Kernel inside Windows _without_ emulation (complicated and interesting imho)

Submitted by guestt on March 11, 2007 - 7:20pm

CoLinux is a way to run linux inside (!) windows.
No emulation such as vmware!
Therefore linux and all linux applications will run with fullspeed and without lag!

Some links....
- http://www.colinux.org/ (I guess it`s the basic project. Imho you need to be a little geek to get it running.
- http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/AndLinux (promising but still to complicated)
- http://sourceforge.net/projects/colonist/ (Aim`s to be run out of the box, I did not get it to work.)
- http://www.topologilinux.com/ (Most easy installer, I got it working including online connection.)

Portable CMD

Submitted by cardernE on March 10, 2007 - 2:58pm

i don't no if this is possible, but could a portable version of the windows Command Prompt be made. Or of command.com

I need this because i'm generally using a school PC with seriously a seriously limited account, (CMD obviously disabled) and I need to run some batch files.

Even better would be a java prog dat somehow piggybacks off of CMD.exe or command.com because running java apps isn't disabled.

Thanks for the help and thumbs up to JTH

Portable Adobe Illustrator or clone

Submitted by mwortman on March 9, 2007 - 1:18pm

Is there a way to load Illustrator onto a flashdrive?

Is there a portable version available? Is there a plan for one? Or a clone that opens and saves files in editable .pdf?

My office is increasingly moving to telecommuting and guest office cubes loaded with standard software. That works well for most of my colleagues, but I am the only one running Illustrator.

Essentail PIM

I found this a great program in the Essential PIM Free (Personal Information Manager).

It is simular to Sunbird in look and feel but the PIM adds some extras that I like. I use it now in conjuction in a folder on my USB but would like to see it developed intergarted with the Apps program.
