Request Apps

Got a suggestion for an app that should be portable? Post it here.

AbiWord, Audacity, GIMP 2.4, KompoZer, Scribus, Inkscape, and Thunderbird Portables for MAC and Fedora 8 Requested! :D

Submitted by linuxglobe on December 28, 2007 - 12:55am

I write a Linux Blog called linuxglobe.wordpress.com, I am strongly disappointed that NO Portable Apps from AbiWord, Audacity, GIMP 2.4, KompoZer, Scribus, Inkscape, Firefox, to Thunderbird, are NOT available for the Fedora 8 OS or Ubuntu 7.10 OS for that matter. Linux is becoming a major threat to Windoze and Portableapps could really help BOOST Linux in so many ways. Also, I use my MAC for other tasks and NO MAC OS X 10.4/10.5 compatible Portableapps are available, this too must be remedied, not everyone in USA is using Microsoft!

portable GnuPG and GPG Shell

The thunderbird and enigmail bundle is nice. But there are some function limitations. You can`t download files from the internet and then check if the signature matches the downloaded file.

For non portable use gpg4win works fine. But there is no portable version and making portable is hard.

Many frontends are out.

Any that could be used portable?

Jajuk

Jajuk is a Music organizer and a great one in my opinion. pLus its free and platform independent.

Jajuk is fairly portable with the exception of that when Jajuk is first run it places a file called ".jajuk_bootstrap" in your user folder. This file then tells Jajuk where your workspace is (which contains the db for you music location, etc..)

I am knew to programming, and still trying to figure this whole making your own portable stuff..

I would love to see this app in a true portable format...

I was surfing the forum and found a link to another web that show me a software called Protect Exe 0.4 beta. I still need to check for license, but most of the software in that page is open source so I think it's not a problem...

This program encrypt and password protect exe files... yes, I know is not "the best solution" but I think is something to help protect our PApps.

Serials 2005

Has anyone thought of trying to make a portable version of Serials2005?

It's closed-source freeware. I use it on my home computer to store all of my software serial info. It makes it much easier than keeping up with all of the papers themselves. It would be nice to be able to run this from one of my flashdrives, as I tend to to a lot of reloading of software and os's.
