VLC Two Questions

Submitted by DADSGETNDOWN on November 10, 2020 - 12:14am

While watching a video within VLC like home movies on DVD or USB or another way for that matter. I want to Record then "pause" the recording so I can skip/remove parts I don't want to record, then continue the recording is that possible?

It seems I can't just hit the record button, well I can after you go create the directory/folder but then it writes a file with no extension, what extension is it ? and anyway to set it or change it? VLC can open it and play it, but I want to play it on other devices.
More details for either of those ??

[Fixed] OBS Studio Portable not starting on Windows 7

Submitted by PortableGood on October 26, 2020 - 6:14pm

I was excited to see OBS Studio Portable added to PortableApps, and I finally had few minutes to give it a try on a Win7 64-bit box.

It downloaded and installed fine, but no UI appeared at all.

I had to close it using Task Manager.

I tried it several times, but same problem each time. No UI or error messages appear when running it.

The only thing that happens is that a 32-bit process named OBSPortable.exe gets launched as well as a 64-bit process named obs64.exe. But no app windows appear for OBS.

Using PortableApps launcher v17.1.1.

VLC Portable unable to open piped input

Submitted by oro_ on October 21, 2020 - 11:11am

Hello, I'm trying to use VLC Portable with streamlink. Streamlink works by redirecting a video stream from a website like YouTube/Twitch/etc and redirects it to a video player using stdin or named pipes.

I'm trying to use it with VLC Portable and I get the error "Cannot open MRL fd://0". fd://0 in this instance refers to the standard input. This works without any issues on the non-portable VLC downloaded from VideoLan's website. I'm using this in Windows 10 and haven't tested other portable app versions of VLC.

PotPlayer Pop-Up Logo Problem - where to download older versions?

Submitted by jxf11 on September 14, 2020 - 8:45am

With recent versions of PotPlayer, a square white pop-up with a yellow PotPlayer logo periodically happens when launching a file:

I have a firewall blocking all PotPlayer traffic so I suspect this is a placeholder for an ad.

Older versions of PotPlayer do not do this.

I confirmed that PotPlayerPortable_1.7.21289.paf.exe has this issue.

Can the older PortableApps PotPlayerPortable builds be downloaded so I can test them?

CDex is malware?

Submitted by patdiddy88 on July 25, 2020 - 7:43pm

according to the trunk page on LAME's sourceforge SVN page, they stated that "CDex has been stolen and is loaded with malware." The last time tried using CDex, it was completely useless. Is the version on the platform actually malware? if not, then it should be marked as discontinued. Thanks
