How can i add an existing free portable application (i.e. Oracle SQL Developer) to the PortableApps Menu

Submitted by jjakson on April 18, 2008 - 9:34am

Is it possible to add an existing portable application to the PortableApps menu without using the "Install a New App" option.

Im working with Oracle SQL Developer and Jdeveloper which are both portable. It would be extremely handy if i could add them to the PortableApps Menu so that I could access all my portable applications from one point. Can this be done?

These applications don't have the directory structure of the other official portable applications by portableapps.com

Perl, Python, Ruby, &c.

I’m starting work on making a portable version of ConTeXt, a TeX-based typesetting system similar in scope to LaTeX. Some of the associated utility programs, though, require Perl or Ruby. There are efforts at Portable Perl here and here, and Python here, but searching for Ruby turns up only this (two years old, and not integrated into the PortableApps system).

For anyone wondering why Songbird Portable isn't out yet, I thought I'd give you an update. The majority of the code is complete for it, however we are still sorting out code to change drive letters in the SQLite database.

Okay, everyone happy? Now, stop bugging me Blum

Vote for next Official Apps 1

Hey everyone. after reading John's new update, i've taken it upon myself to create this thread. I think it would be a good idea to have a new one of these before each round of dev releases.

What apps do you think should be released in the next round of Developer releases? Among other things, keep in mind how useful the app would be portable and how popular it is. The apps also need to be ready enough to move to Pre-Release. The last round had 5 releases so i'm gonna go ahead and say list 5 and order them, with #1 being the most important.

Win95B compatable Portable Apps?

Submitted by vonr0 on April 16, 2008 - 11:11pm

Have any Portable Apps been created that would run under Windows 95b?

I have an old laptop that I can use a Compact Flash Card in a PCMCIA Slot with an adapter. It would be great if I could run Apps from that Flash Card because the internal RAM is sparse.

I'm just trying to ReUse the old laptop instead of chucking it out, as has been suggested many times.

Ok, I'm posting a quick outline for comment as the full spec isn't done yet and I'd like to get some more input from the community. Here are just the basics. Nothing too fancy. Please offer up any comments or suggestions. Thanks!
