Portable App Development

I've downloaded the 4 Liberta 1.0 programs (several times now). When I run them, all open and close a DOS window. Log also gives a 16 bit MSDOS subsystem error. Nowhere that I can find were any files actually added to my USB drive. ?????

I'm considering doing either a simple app that either:

1. Makes a tray icon for whatever app or icon you choose; or
2. Make a splash screen for whatever app or jpg you choose

So, which one?
I'm also starting work on a Safely Remove app.

As you may or may not know, I've joined Steve Lamerton and Renè in developing Liberta. I recently released a small utility called AutoINF, which was to be the first of a suite of thumb-drive applications. I'm pleased to tell you that the KeyUTIL project is now merged with Libertà.

My new tool, AutoINF, can generate Autorun files -- just fill out a form and you're done. It's written in NSIS.

Wait, before you tell me I'm an idiot, here's why I think it's a good idea:

You can't get Autorun to autostart a program on a portable USB stick. But, because the U3 environment sits on that little read-only partition it autostarts the U3 Launchpad when you insert the stick.

... So what? Well - You can configure the U3 Launchpad to autostart any U3 application on startup.

Therefore, you take advantage of U3 (which kind of sucks in my opinion) and use it for something useful - Remove all the existing U3 apps from your stick and just add the U3-enabled PStart, and set it to autorun. Then - Bam, the flexibility of using any portable app you want, with the convenience of an automatically starting launcher.
