Dock Launchers in General

Submitted by kennydjr83 on July 28, 2006 - 12:08pm

I have found a way to use any standalone dock launcher (such as RKLauncher http://home.cogeco.ca/~rklauncher/ or y'z dock http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2790 ) but it is tedious.

In case you dont know what a dock launcher is, It's basically a program launcher that looks like the macOS launcher. It's a clean and efficient way to launch programs, and in my eyes, is a better alternative to the portable launching apps avaliable. The problems is that although RKLauncher and y'z dock are standalone applications, they have trouble using relative paths for shortcuts, rendering them useless as a portable app.

How to copy files and set Uncompressed flag ?

Submitted by albuemil on July 24, 2006 - 5:37am

Hy.

I've got a litle problem, i'm using TrueCrypt to create a virtual drive that contains all the programs.
In order to have a longer lifespan of my already old USB pen, i've made a script that copies the virtual image to %temp% on the local computer, mounts it and starts PStart from that. When i close PStart, all info is saved, the image is unmounted and the image is copied back on the USB pen. (this way, the USB is accessed only 2 times/session, not a few hundred/thousands times when some programs write data to disk).

Now for the question.
For some reason, TrueCrypt (and a few other programs) don't like having the virtual image as "compressed" (you know, the "Compress" flag for NTFS files), so is there a way (a program, script or command) that can copy a file and uncheck that flag ? (so the file remains uncompressed, even if the %temp% folder is compressed). I can make that manually, but it's a pain in the ass to do that each and every time. I can also set the "%temp%" folder to be uncompressed on the computer i'm working on, but just in case i go to another computer, the "%temp%" folder might still be compressed.

Portable Winamp 5.24

Submitted by Bletch on July 23, 2006 - 1:03am

Hi,

I have just developed a portable version of Winamp 5.24, but due to the licensing I obviously can't distribute this. So - I would like to attempt to make a program that will build PortableWinamp from an existing installation, but I'm not sure exactly how much I'm allowed to package with this - I would like include the winamp icon, and several winamp-generated .ini config files with the 'builder'. Does anyone know more about this? [edit: email offer removed]. Cheers.

When will Liberta LaunchPad be released?

Submitted by MrChris on July 12, 2006 - 2:00am

When will either a beta or final version of Liberta LaunchPad be released as I am dieing to check it out?

Also since PStart I think is a very common LaunchPad that a lot of people use (I know I do) are there any plans to be able to Import the Pstart.xml Settings file into Liberta LaunchPad at all? Since I have almost 200 or so misc apps and what not on my current 4GB Sandisk Cruzer Micro and about 150 or so on my 2GB SanDisk cruzer Micro (Skinned)

Regards,

MrChris

Out of curiosity, will mkPort require the installation file/CD, or an installed copy of the program to "Portablize?". Anyway, great work Libertà team!!!

Portable OOo 2.0.3-de: Need some hints for compression

Submitted by andreasma on July 1, 2006 - 10:00am

I have tried to compress OOo-2.0.3-de(RC7) with UPX and 7-Zip. The files on the USB-Stick are 20 MB bigger than the former version. I run UPX with the options on the support-page of portableapps.com. The original archive of OOo-2.0.3-de is also 3 MB bigger than 2.0.2, but not so much. Is there any hint to compress the zip-files in OOo in a better way? What about the .net-dll. Are there a program to make them smaller? Thanks for any hint.
I hope, PortableOOo-de-2.0.3 could be released in more smaller form at the same time as OOo-2.0.3-de-local. If there are no way to get it smaller, I will release it as it is today (zip: 98,4 MB, unzip: 195 MB).
