multiple proxies

Submitted by znaya on December 10, 2005 - 6:23am

Hello.

I use PFF in several places and extensions like "SwitchProxy" and "Yahoo! Mail Notifier" are really helpful.

I tried PFF 1.5 but i'm experiencing some problems with proxy handling.
"SwitchProxy" button acts a bit weird... there are no proxy names on it and there is a proxy password form constantly poping up! Sometimes it pops up 6 and 7 times while a webpage is loading and everytime "Yahoo! Mail Notifier" checks for new mail! First i thought it could be a problem of "SwitchProxy", maybe a compatibility problem between "SwitchProxy" and PFF 1.5. I disabled "SwitchProxy" and installed "xyzproxy". The problem persists. The proxy password hasn't changed recently and is correct.

Speeding Up Portable Firefox

Anyone have any tips to speed up Portable Firefox?

I've found 1.5 to be significantly faster (interface-wise as well as internet browsing speed), but does anyone have any notes? I was considering upping the cache, but that might actually make things slowing because you'd be adding all that cache data to the portable drive.

Should Portable FF1.5 manage passwords?

Submitted by nanobreaker on December 10, 2005 - 2:24am

Is it okay to use the password manager inside portablefirefox when running it from a usb flash drive? I saw this under the copying local files section of this website:

"When you start Portable Firefox for the first time, be sure to turn off disk cache, password saving and history if you're using a non-hard drive portable device."

I also run an external password manager (KeePass).
Any help would be useful. Thanks.

Previous Versions

Is there a way I could download a previous version of portable firefox? 1.5 doesn't currently work with my extensions and I'd like try some other versions. This is a constant problem w/firefox.
Thanks.

Great prog though. I'm about to move and am already dependant on it.

Thanks.

Save 1.5MB

As required by law:

Awsome job, great idea!

FYI:

I have found I can get the compressed portable_firefox_1.5_en-us.zip down from 6,643,139 bytes to 5,258,684 bytes using Tugzip, http://www.tugzip.com/ ,and 7z compression.

This is a significant savings especially for download bandwidth.

Results

portable_firefox_1.5_en-us.zip
Original (download from sourceforge) - 6,643,139 bytes
7z Ultra Compression - 5,258,684
7z & a Self-Extractor - 5,343,676 (79% current file size) 1.29MB saved

I would recommend considering use of 7z and self-extractor to lower your bandwidth overhead.

Duplicate Instance Running Bug

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on December 9, 2005 - 4:10pm

After running portable firefox 1.5 for the first time and updating some extensions then restarting portable firefox, an alert pops up saying another instance of firefox is already running and prevents firefox from opening. I have checked running processes and firefox.exe is not listed and I have ejected my external hard drive and it still gives that alert.

Edit: The same alert of another firefox instance even exists on another pc where portable firefox has never been run on before.
