firefox won't open due to 'another firefox currently running' even when there is not

Submitted by hollis1818 on July 17, 2007 - 11:48am

this is win2000 machine. usb is 1.1, I belive.
On my 8gig flash drive port firefox was working. Now that I have changed to a 1gig flash, I can not open firefox without shuting down and then restarting the machine and then opening the flash drive.
task list does not show a 2nd copy of firefox running..
I have non-portable firefox[FF]. It is not running at time I try to run prtable firefox. It will run seperatly, but I prefer to use portable FF.
any idea?
Thsi is work machine, so I am limited in changes I can make on machine. That is why I like portable FF.

Toolbars

I have Firefox 2.0.4 installed on my flash drive. I also have the Google tool bar installed. I have two add-ons: the Google notebook add-on and "Split Browser". Split Browser allows you to split window panes in Firefox.

Passwords

I have installed everything ok, and the signons.txt is there, but when I open the password manager, there are no passwords! The original file was signon2.txt and didn't show passwords, so I renamed it sigons.txt and still nothing. Can someone tell me how to fix this, please??

Firefox Portable not starting

Submitted by kawayanan on July 12, 2007 - 9:19am

I have used Firefox Portable for a while (on a usb drive and in a truecrypt volume. Suddenly a few days ago, they stopped working. When I try to start them, nothing happens (no splash screen, nothing comes up). No error messages come up. If I look at task manager however, Firefox Portable is there and taking all the cpu it can (usually 98 or 99%). If I wait, nothing happens (its not just slow starting). I have to kill it or it just goes on forever. This is on WinXP, with all updates (who knows, the updates may have killed it - I can't think of any other changes).
