Adding Adobe Flash Player to FF Portable

Submitted by seanspotatobusiness on March 15, 2009 - 8:00am

I am using portable Firefox from my USB stick on university-owned computers. When I try to use Google Anayltics to determine usage statistics of a website that I am presiding over, all the images which should be graphs are replaced with green jigsaw pieces advising me to install a missing plug-in. I try to do this and I'm told that it cannot be done automatically and instead must be done manuallly. So I click on the 'manual' button and I am taken to the Adobe Flash Player download page. I download the file and then what?

Firefox is already running

So i used this http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/register-firefox-portable-with-default... to set my portable firefox as the default application for links etc. The problem i'm having, is when i try clicking a link inside my email, i get the message:

"Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system."

Memory requirements

FireFox 3.1 required so much memory that it cannot run correctly on this machine. For example, it cannot display gmail correctly, claiming that it does not have enough memory to run scripts. I ran this test on a laptop with 512 MB of ram and running Vista Home Basic.

The local library computers run XP in 256 MB.

Cant login to Facebook

Submitted by sniffy on March 13, 2009 - 8:47am

I have been using the portable apps suite for a little over a week - everything is working fine (Gimp, ftp,Keepass, etc, etc)I can sign in to every site that is in my browser. Recently though I have been unable to login to Facebook, where as when i first started using the portable browser I could sign in every time. Has anybody else noticed a problem like this?

PS.I deleted my password from my browser and entered it manually in a attempt to resolve the problem, but it has had no effect.

FireFTP no longer working

Submitted by mlun on March 12, 2009 - 3:02am

For some time FireFTP no longer works, and I thought it was because it was no longer compatible with FF, but should be as far as I can see.

FireFTP launches just fine, and when I try to connect to a site the logs shows that everything is fine. for example:
220---------- Welcome to Pure-FTPd [TLS] ----------
220-You are user number 1 of 50 allowed.
220-Local time is now 07:58. Server port: 21.
220-IPv6 connections are also welcome on this server.
220 You will be disconnected after 15 minutes of inactivity.
AUTH TLS
234 AUTH TLS OK.

Restarts to Default.

Everytime I close down FF it defaults. [kinda] It shows all those encryption things that are only supposed to pop up once. I also cannot set any themes because as soon as I restart FF to enable a theme it just defaults. Also, I have session store enabled, but the only tabs that pop up are the main page, and the download statusbar information page.

How to backup bookmarks and (toolbar) settings?

Submitted by IcePick on March 11, 2009 - 7:56am

I would like to have an easy way to backup (and restore) my current bookmarks and toolbar settings of my Firefox portable WITHOUT having to install (big) third party apps like MozBackup.

Furthermore I don't need a backup of add-ons.

Just built-in settings + bookmarks are enough.

How can I do this?

I would prefer instructions for copying files (which ?) in WinExplorer

Settings, extensions, cookies etc.

Just have a quick question. like to use a few portable apps on a partitioned hdd, so when i want to do a fresh install i can leave the portable apps and not have to install them every time.

Well i've just done a fresh install. But when i ran firefox portable all the extensions, cookies and my bookmarks were gone.

And i was just wondering if there's a folder i need to be adding them to so they'll stick, and if i decide to put firefox onto a usb to use on a different PC, those bookmarks and settings will be saved.
