Firefox Portable

Here's a weird one for you...

I've been having all sorts of problems, for the last week, with my thumb drive.

FFP crashed, and I had to reinstall it. My Miranda-IM db kept getting corrupt, and had to be repaired. Winamp was overflowing its' cache. Yada, yada, yada.

While trying to figure this out, I ran 'netstat' and discovered FFP was constantly 'phoning home' to Google. It looked like a classic worm signature, to me. After investigating this more, I discovered Mozilla and Google are working together to provide Fx2 with this anti-phish protection.

I tried running a local db, and the Goggle one -- didn't make any difference -- FFP was still constantly communicating with Google and crashing the proggies mentioned above.

On the page that displays the EULA, the Next button says Continue, however the EULA specifically mentions an "ACCEPT" button.

If I run Firefox browser are my history,websites visited,temporary files or anything, stored or retrievable from the administrator?

Do any of you have an idea why the file F:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\App\firefox\plc4.dll would suddenly become corrupted? I.e. it was preventing PFF from starting.

Three things happened on my machine from the time PFF last worked fine
- installing and uninstalling VMWare Workstation
- installing VMWare Server
- Upgrading PTB 1.5.0.8 to 1.5.0.9

I simply overwrote the file that windows thought was corrupt with the same file from firefox on my notebook. Would that be fine or should I rather fine a PFF version of the file?

I have tried updating FFP an TBP in the past with the automatic updates. I usually get the notification when I am at work. I connect through a proxy there. 99.99% of the time the update fails and hangs until I can manually update the entire program with one of your downloads.

Does the proxy connection have anything to do with updating?

If this is true it might explain all of the support topics that pop up after am automatic update is released.

Maybe FF of TB is handling portable media better, or maybe its just a coincidence that mine worked perfectly tonight for TBp 1.5.0.9 and FFP 2.0.0.1.

I'm using the The RunLocally entry because I use Portable Firefox on a CDRW.
Then, Firefox Portable copies my profile, plugins and Firefox binaries to my local temp directory : about 4 Mo! It's then very slow to start Firefox Portable from a CDRW.

Why not copying only the profile? It would be very quicker to start without copying plugins and Firefox binaries but using them from CDRW. Is it possible?

I use FirefoxPortable on my pc (other than my usb drive)

On the PC Firefox is set as the default browser but nonetheless whenever I click on a file or call an URL in any other external way (another program) I get the "Firefox already running" message.

To be precise I get this message: "Firefox is already running, but not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system"

Now, this message is given when 1) firefox isn't running at all (verified to the processes), or 2) it is running and also responding very well!!

now, 1) I haven't renamed FirefoxPortable,

Is there a way, as in IE7 when closing Firefox, to give you an option to reopen all your tabs when you restart Firefox?

Often at the end of day, I'll have many tabs open I want to resume where I left off the night before.

It told me to update to 2.0.0.1, but it also said that it would disable addons that show as incompatible, including some for which I specified to have compatibility checking turned off. Will the update honor my settings or will it override them and disable all incompatible extesnions?

I added buttons (Weather and Gmail, both from Google) to my Google toolbar, but they seem to reside in:

"C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Custom Buttons\"

rather than a portable directory. Is there a way to modify this?
