GAIM connects but not Firefox

Submitted by Mikew07 on January 20, 2006 - 4:52pm

Hey at school the computers are suppoused to be locked down so people cant access the internet; however triallian and portable GAIM both can connect to the net (I think because of the ports not sure) Is there any way to modify firefox so it can access these holes too? The reason this sparks so much intrest is the person in charge of the network repeatedly claims there are no holes, i wanna prove him wrong.
Thanks

Auto backup of bookmarks is killing my Portable Firefox

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on January 17, 2006 - 7:19pm

Is there any way to disable the automatic bookmark backup feature that keeps on adding backed up bookmark files into the "bookmarksbackup" folder? My bookmark is pretty big and this keeps on aggravating my profile. The situation is even worse in my portable version of firefox, where it tries to backup the bookmark at the beginning and save it as a bookmark.bak file while exiting and in the process takes on ages, not to mention the reduction in life of my flash drive. I need to disable this auto-backup feature, desperately. Please help.

Portable Firefox OS X

I've packaged a Mac OS X version using this script so you can launch it with a double click from any device:

#!/bin/sh
here="`dirname \"$0\"`"
echo "Starting Firefox from '$here'."
echo "Wait a while before Firefox start."
sh "$here/app/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox" -profile "$here/profile"
echo "Done!"
echo "When finish, quit Terminal.app before eject your portable device."
