Updating FireFox Portable

Submitted by phlegm on January 12, 2012 - 4:37pm

I thinking of deploying Firefox Portable on desktops since it is a flat folder install. The beauty of this is I just need to copy the folder and it's fully functional. No install / uninstall commands.

My Question is how can I update this in the future? Can I run the command:

"\\...FirefoxPortable_9.0.1_English.paf.exe" /s (example)

and update Firefox portable without any fuss?

Thanks

Question about Firefox Portable Beta

Submitted by Noob Newbie on January 10, 2012 - 9:47pm

The PortableApps.com release of Firefox 10 Beta3 is taking a long time so I decided to use the internal Firefox updater instead of waiting for and update to be available from the PA.c Updater.

I started PA > clicked on Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition (9 Beta) > after Firefox started, I clicked on Help > clicked on About Firefox > clicked on Check for Updates > Downloaded and installed the update in that window > restarted Firefox.

When I click on Help > About Firefox, it now appears "10.0" below Firefox logo.

However, I have some questions:

Fx Portable hidden config feature breaks browser's update installations on Fx Portable 11.0a2 and Fx Portable 12.0a1

Ever since the Fx Windows UAC change bug 481815: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481815 for those using a Firefox Portable version of Aurora 11.0a2 and Nighty 12.0a1(Created using zip builds), and you are using the Fx portable hidden config option setting to change 'firefox.exe' process name(example: firefoxaurora.exe), updates would download and then fail to install.

Portable FireFox 9.0.1 not running under Windows XP with SP 3

Submitted by John van Someren on January 3, 2012 - 11:04am

From my work computer I try to launch Firefox 9.0.1 from my memory stick. My computer here uses XP with SP 3. I get the application's flash window but this is immediately followed by it crashing and I see the standard XP message window saying "firefox.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

I get the same message if I launch FireFox.exe manually, ie from the folder it resides in on the memory stick.

I don't get this problem at home where I have Windows 7.

The portable app launcher advises me that my copy is up to date.

Firefox Sync not working

Submitted by OLLI_S on December 26, 2011 - 11:02am

Hello,

I recognized that Firefox Sync is not working.
If I set up sync to an existing account and restart Firefox, then all sync settings are gone.
In the Firefox menu (the orange Firefox button) there is "Setup Sync" instead of "Sync now".

I had Firefox 8 installed version (not the portable version).
There I set up Firefox sync to sync my bookmarks between my private PC, my work PC and my Android phone.
Everything worked perfectly.

Changing Language in Fiefox 9.01

Submitted by OLLI_S on December 25, 2011 - 3:27pm

Hello,

I have the PAP (Portable Apps Platform) 10.0.1 in German language.
Also my OS (Windows 7) is in German language.
And my old portable Firefox (8.x) was also in German language.
For some postings here I changed the language of the PAP to English.

Then the PAP updated Firefox to version 9.0 (auto update).
But now Firefox is displayed in English language.

Is there a way to get Firefox in German language?
Installing it again is not an option, because it took me some time to install and configure some Add-Ons.

FF 9.0.1 update

Submitted by djnavas on December 22, 2011 - 2:59pm

Today, I accepted the FireFox update to 9.0.1. Was a 2 MB download.

After I accepted, I realized that was FireFox which asked me to install this update. Wasn't the portable apps platform.

It is okay this way of update or I must replace the FireFox with portable version 9.0?

Thanks,

Tips - How to pin FirefoxPortable in windows 7

Submitted by MasterYoda on December 21, 2011 - 5:43pm

=== update ===
this trix has stopped working with v10 for some reason.
================

People have had problem to pin firefox portable in windows 7 so the right firefox profile starts and, at the same time, only get one single icon in the taskbar.

The problem have been:
1 - If you start firefoxportable.exe and then try to pin it, next time you start it you notice a new profile is started locally on the computer and not the profile you have used in firefoxportable. This is because firefox.exe is pinned.

Separate cookies on Mozilla Firefox (?)

Submitted by wroclawianin on December 20, 2011 - 3:56am

Hello, here's my problem:

Untill not I was using Mozilla Firefox as my webbrowser. Now as I'm playing some browser game that requires me to delete cookies like 2-3 times a day it started to get annoying. My question is: can I have installed both: Mozilla Firefox and Firefox Portable on the same PC, that would have separate cookies? So when I play my game on portable and then I delete the cookies, my cookies from the regular Mozilla Firefox won't be deleted?

I know I could use another browser for my game, like opera or something but I simply don't want to.
