Getting the correct SMTP address

Submitted by ramasaig on December 16, 2006 - 8:14am

I'm new to Portable TB. I've recently been away from home for three weeks, during which I've visited friends and internet cafes. I've had no trouble downloading e-mails with portable TB, but always ran into trouble for sending. Setting my pertable TB to work with the SMTP address used by the host computer's ISP worked just fine. However, many people don't know what their SMTP address is, and even if they do, I don't feel comfortable asking them to reveal their password. I took to using web-mail for replies, but obviously this is not ideal.

Since writing the above I've had a look at smtp.com, but there's something I don't understand.

Encrypted email storage?

Submitted by ArnoF on December 12, 2006 - 5:02am

Hi!

I was wondering whether there is an extension to (Portable) Thunderbird that allows to STORE all the emails encrypted. I just don't feel well when I think that I might just leave all my emails on a USB stick somewhere so that some random person can read everything I've ever written and received.
I know that there is On-the-fly encryption like TrueCrypt, but all those solutions require administrator rights - which is bad when I go to public computers with my USB stick.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Arno

How to sync

Submitted by Miles on December 11, 2006 - 8:46am

Have WinXP with TB1.5.0.8 on desktop & TBP 1.5.0.5. Am ignorant as to synching even after checking posts and following links. Have one question:

Have been using the desktop for a week and prior was using TBP for a month. Since return have kept many msgs (in "kept mail" folder), hence several "folders" are different than those in TBP. Now need to bring in the msgs from TBP and wonder if there is a program that will simply add those that are missing from the desktop without simply replacing the entire file or duplicating msgs.

Alternatively could forward each individual msg which will be received by the desktop.

Message Filters

Is there a way to sort the message filters without moving each one individually? I'm trying to sort mine alphabetically, but it's a long list. I was hoping there is a way to sort them eg:like an excel spreadsheet.

Download of Mail to TB renders original inbox empty.

Hi I'm new to PortableApps so forgive the ignorance. When I open my mail using Thunderbird I see my inbox from Yahoo. However when I logon to Yahoo the messages once downloaded to Thunderbird seem to have vanished. I can still see them in Thunderbird.

Is there any way to still be able to view them from Yahoo?

OPeramail. smtpx problem

Submitted by AndySmith on December 8, 2006 - 12:04pm

I'm having no luck sending emails using Thunderbird portable using my OPeramail account. Does anyone know the correct smtpx settings?

I've tried port 25 and alternative 587 . . . no joy.

I connect to the server okay then get

"The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: Cannot connect to SMTP server 205.158.62.125 (205.158.62.125:25), connect error 10060."

Any ideas?
