SMTP Problem…I think.

Submitted by Justice on November 17, 2006 - 10:57am

Hi

I was wondering if anyone else is having the same problem as me when I use my Portable Thunderbird.

I must point out that this is not a problem that Portable Thunderbird is causing but more of a general question.

When you have a POP and SMTP e-mail account provided by your ISP I have noticed that you have to be logged on through that ISP to gain access to the SMTP server. I understand why they do this to prevent spammers etc but what can a genuine Portable Thunderbird user do to get around this problem ?

I have tried programs like Free SMTP but nothing seems to work.

So my question is how do I send and receive e-mail from my ISP e-mail account whilst logging on with my Portable Thunderbird on a host computer from a different ISP ?

Submitted by Meins on November 17, 2006 - 10:12am

Hello i need some help with my Thunderbid Portable Version 1.5.0.8 which doesn't see any of my inboxes after starting.
All E-Mail are away and it creates ony a new inbox called Localfolders-1 instead of readin the content of my /profile/mail folder.
May be one file is damaged where the informations about all inboxes are stored.
I don't use the local folders at all, jut three webmail in there own folders each.

Temporarely disable an account

Submitted by Medronho on November 15, 2006 - 9:23am

I have about 12 email-accounts in Thunderbird. Normally I download all mails by clicking "Get all new messages". But I have 2 accounts which are working only over modem-connection (depends on my email-providers). On PC's where I don't have a modem I want to temporarely disable these 2 accounts because otherwise I get an error-message. Is this possible in a setting or option?

Too many Files/Folders

Submitted by rsaettone on November 12, 2006 - 10:32am

I have moved completly to Thunderbird portable on my USB 2 GB device.
I got tired of synchronizing my email on the several computers I use daily.
I use email to keep track of several independent concurrent projects.
One folder per project.
My email folders are getting a bit too crowded.
I would like to be able to store away folders of closed projects in order to free up space and speed up Thunderbird, but still be able to read them from time to time.

Any Ideas ?

Odd behaviour - inbox messages open as "compose"

Submitted by Chris Rust on November 12, 2006 - 6:17am

Hi,

Since yesterday, whenever I double click to open a message in inbox it opens a "compose" window similar (but not quite) to the one you would get if you selected "reply".

If I right click on the message in inbox and select "open message in new folder" it behaves normally. Other folders seem OK, this is only a problem with inbox.

I've installed a new version of Thunderbird portable and copied my profile to it, no change so it appears to be a problem embedded in my profile.

I've emptied the inbox and deleted the inbox and inbox.msf files, no change.
