losing e-mails ?

Submitted by cmk on September 16, 2006 - 8:51am

I have portable Thunderbird on a USB stick; Just now after typing in my password I see at the bottom of the screeen "downlaoding 1 of 1 message" then there's nothing in my inbox; this happened on at least three occasions in the past week. The other times I had one less message in my inbox than the download messgae indicated.

Am I losing messages or is Thunderbird incorrectly saying I have messages that aren't there?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Thunderbird will not launch after online update to 1.5.0.7

Submitted by srf21c on September 15, 2006 - 12:04pm

Got a notification today to upgrade to the latest version of Thunderbird 1.5.0.7. The update downloaded and then crashed while installing on the next launch. Now when I try to launch Portable Thunderbird the process runs for about 5-10 seconds and then just disappears, no error messages or anything. Renaming my thunderbird profile and trying to launch did not make any difference either.

Disk space setting does not seem to work

Submitted by linuxamp on September 15, 2006 - 7:49am

Disk space is an important issue, especially with portable apps. Thunderbird supports a disk space saving feature but it does not seem to be working in Thunderbird Portable.

Click
Tools -> account settings

Expand the "localfolders" tree in the left pane and click on "disk space"

I tried to enable "delete all but the last xx messages" but it does not work.

Windows 98 SE compatible

Submitted by pendean on September 13, 2006 - 7:25am

I´m currently dependent on a Windows 98SE machine, and it crashes every time I open Portable Thurnderbird--it just announces that the application has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. Any thoughts on how this can be remedied?

MD5 Hash for Thunderbird Portable 1.5.0.5 + Enigmail/GPG

Submitted by bluepanda on September 11, 2006 - 6:07pm

OK...the MD5 Hash for 1.5.0.5 + Enigmail/GPG on the download page for 1.5.0.5 does *not* match the MD5 hash I get when I crunch it. The hash, as it appears on the page is:

cbfe358b220b8960ccd3e20a8733e736

...and the hash, as I calculate it, is:

34cc751a77c20fbc582844629fdf6c77

I did a search on this and found nothing. And yes, I'm one of the "geek squad" who checks things like this, but it's only because I'm paranoid. Wink

Can anybody confirm, and if the maintainer happens to read this (hi, John!) can you please verify the correct MD5 sum?

I've just newly found this site after purchasing a U3 flash drive (didn't mean to), and I absolutely love the PortableApps.com model over the U3 model.

TBP, Migo, U3, etc...

Submitted by sergiom99 on September 7, 2006 - 10:26am

I'm thinking of buying a new Kingston flash drive. I am looking forward to:

** Kingston 2GB USB 2.0 DataTraveler II (Part n° KUSBDTII/2GB )
or
** Kingston Data Traveler II Plus - Migo Edition 2GB (Part n° DTII+M/2GB )

Anyone has had any experience with TBP and U3, Migo or secured flash drives?

And with any of these drives?? I'm excited about the secure or encryption features.

Thanks a lot for your help.
Sergio.

PS: And I have to add that John has made a superb job with Portable TB!! Thanks man!

memory card - thunderbird

Submitted by lynhines on September 7, 2006 - 4:30am

First of all thanks to all making portable apps possible. Revolutionary.

I recentyly bought a IPAQ Rx 1950 and was disappointed I couldn't sync thunderbird, usually on a usb key. I thought I might be able to run thunderbird from the memory card. no luck.

Is their a way to do this or are the operating systems too differerent?

Thanks

Problem: Inbox always appears empty on startup!

When I installed P-TBird, I neglected to disable "automatic updates". A week or so ago T-Bird 1.5.0.5 was auto installed on top of P-Tbird. This may or may not be related to my problem.

About the same time, everything left in my inbox from a previous session would be gone when I started the program. I searched Mozilla archives and discovered that this problem can happen if:

1. Too much mail is left in the inbox
2. Sub-directories of the inbox are created

One can test for this problem by doing a "Compact Files". I did so and all the missing messages re-appeared but were invisible again when I re-started. "Compact Files" would always bring them back.
