Junk mail in the Thunderbird 2.0 alpha (a1)

Submitted by katzunit on October 15, 2006 - 12:50pm

I was never able to get the junk filter features to work in the most recent (I believe) Thunderbird portable 2.0 alpha. I'm running this on an XP machine off a U3 drive.

I found that the Junk folder did not automatically create, leading to various efforts on my part to create one myself. I have the mozillaZine "Junk messages not moved" and followed the instructions (thank you), but the ability to automatically moved Junk mail items to the Junk folder never appeared. I reinstalled a couple of times.

So I'm back with the released product 1.5.0.7 which works very well in this and other regards.

folder names changing

Submitted by rameez on October 13, 2006 - 2:58am

hi ,
i use thunderbird 1.5.0.7 in a USB drive.when ever i copy and paste it to the local PC at home i notice that after starting TB it has changed folder names i have created for specfic emails through email rules. this happens only for one folder only .that is my bluebottle folder and the folder is shown in something like 8g6ccs, which is very confusing.

what can i do.
my main motive is to have TB run on a USb abd also have a regular upadated copy of it in my PC. is this the correct way to do it or should we only copy profile folder.

TBP or U3 TB??

Submitted by sergiom99 on October 12, 2006 - 12:54pm

Hi,
I've been using TBP in my USB drive for a couple of months, and now I'm getting a U3 Kingston drive.
What would you recommend and which one is better: TBP or U3 TB??
Should I switch to U3 or keep using my regular TBP?

In case of switching, all I have to do is copying my 'profile' folder??

Thanks a lot for your help.
TBP kicks ass!

Multiple servers?

Submitted by mr dexter on October 12, 2006 - 10:48am

I set up Thunderbird Portable with my university's incoming mail servers and my outgoing mail server as my home internet provider. At home, I can check and send mail without a problem, but at the university I can receive but not send it. When I try to send mail from the university I get this message:

"An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: #5.1.0 Address rejected... Please verify that your email address is correct in your Mail preferences and try again."

How can this be resolved? Do I have to change the outgoing server depdending on my location?

This is my first post, if this has been addressed elsewhere please direct me to that thread.

How to get PGP to work?

Submitted by ggabriel on October 7, 2006 - 3:15pm

I used TB as a hard disk installation to also read emails with PGP encrypted attachements. I like the concept of having TB as portable version, and installed TBP to my USB device. I also imported my PGP keys from my hard disk. I don't get to read email that contains encrypted attachements on other PC's. Is this a TBP issue, or may I have to install additional software? Would this prevent me from using PTB on any PC?

Is it possible to make profiles in Thunderbird portable?
I tried to make it as suggested in help.

In regular thunderbird it works fine.

Problem deleting emails

After much Hesitation I've desided to start using Thunderbird (portable edition). However, when I try to delete an email I get "The current command did not succeed. The mail server responded: [TRYCREATE] The requested item could not be found.." I went offline and deleted the email, then again from the trash bin, and it was gone. But when I got online again, I received the same email I had just deleted (obviously, it's still in the server). Please help, thanks

PS: John (and helpers), thanks for all the fantastic programs that you're putting out. I really appreciate the "free" work you do here, and it makes me mad to see when some people complain.

Ghost in the machine?

Submitted by EOBeav on October 2, 2006 - 4:33pm

Here's something I haven't seen before. Occasionally, I'll get a pop-up message at the lower right hand corner of my screen that says "1 new message". I'll go into my TB folders, and won't find any new e-mails there. Are these potential spam messages that TB is deleting before I even get a chance to see them? Or is there something else going on? It's not a crucial problem; I was just wondering what's going on.
