I refer all to the The Mana World Portable page for more information, as it now has been officially released.
Release Notes:
Pre-Release 7 (2009-06-22):
- Updated TMW to 0.0.29.1
- Using installer version 0.91.4
Pre-Release 6 (2009-05-15):
-
Went back to TMW 0.0.28.1, because of several reasons.
First reason is that 0.0.29 intoroduced quite a lot of bugs, one of which affects making it portable. Now we had a custom build before, but this one has a bugged icon I cannot seem to fix and well, we feel its better to go back to 0.0.28.1 for now. - Using the newest format specification.
- Using installer 0.90.0
- Using the NSIS Win7 patch (https://portableapps.com/node/19013)
Pre-Release 5 (2009-05-15):
-
Updated TMW to version 0.0.29.
Note: The version this portable contains is a custom build by Bernd Wachter, fixing a bug that makes it impossible for me to make it portable. Thanks Bernd Wachter!!! - Updated the ReadINIStrWithDefault.nsh script.
Pre-Release 4 (2009-04-23):
- Updated the installer to 13.3
- Fixed the version of the launcher itself.
- Removed the DefaultData items, TMW handles this itself.
- Renamed the "DontSaveUpdates" option to "DeleteUpdates".
- Deleted the "already running" check for local instances, since it does not conflict with them. Added a "already running" check for portable instances, incase of having the DeleteUpdates option active. See the additional notes section for more information.
Pre-Release 3 (2009-04-08):
- Removed some redundant code from the launcher.
- A few small edits described in this comment.
Pre-Release 2 (2009-04-05):
- Made the background music files optional. This saves a LOT of space. Thanks to kai.inouye for bringing this to my attention.
Pre-Release 1 (2009-04-03):
- First pre-release.
Development Tests:
- See the TMWPortable Dev Test Thread for release notes for the beta tests.
Cgratulations MaienM on this making it to pre-release status. I'll give it a thorough "test" and report back pronto. Are there any changes other than the splash between this pre-release and the most recent dev test?
Thanks again
EDIT: Mirror 1 doesn't seem to be working correctly. It's a quick download to a file that just don't work
No problems with mirror 2

Wow, Pre-Release! Congrats!
Anyway it might be nice if the installer has the selection of installing the music files or no.
The original installer (which is NSIS) has a option to install those files or no.
Really? I wasn't aware of that option, I'll take a look at it after the weekend.

Made a few minor fixes:
In my opinion these things are not important enough to make a new PR for it, but I wanted to let you guys know I fixed these things.

Have you applied those changes to the current downloads?

He's saying these are issues with PR2 which he's since fixed, but doesn't think that they're worth PR3 yet.

(I haven't downloaded it)
Filename should be "The_Mana_World_Portable_0.0.28.1_PRERELEASE2.paf.exe" (The_Mana_World rather than TheManaWorld, no _en-US and Pre-Release_2 to PRERELESAE2 which is, though not well known, the official PR installer label)
"The TMW Team & Contributors & PortableApps.com" - change this to "The Mana World Team & PortableApps.com" - you're part of PortableApps.com.
Just checking to make sure you removed the "0.0.28.1" from help.html as well?

Are you saying the official PR installer label has incorrect spelling? eg - "PRERELESAE2" rather than "PRERELEASE2"? : D
PortableApps.com Advocate
Fixed the filename.
Actually, the contributors in "The TMW Team & Contributors & PortableApps.com" are the people who contributed to TMW but are not part of the development team. I don't think you can really call those part of the team, but they deserve to be mentioned. Changed it to "The Mana World Team & Contributors & PortableApps.com" though.
I didn't remove 0.0.28.1 from the help file, should I? I checked 7-ZipPortable and it has the version number in it, which kinda confused me. Just checked FFP and NPPP too, seems both of those don't have it so I guess it shouldn't be there. Its removed now.
Still don't think any of those changes are important enough to make a PR3, so I won't make that yet

This seems to be an ongoing issue with this mirror. Anyway this time I got an error message which read:
Hope this helps.
Oh and thanks again

That's a problem which I've experienced before... it's a problem where certain MIME magic files aren't on the server, and PHP depends on them for certain operations.

Damn..... it worked fine on my local apache install, stupid webserver....
The alternative doesn't work on my local server, lets see if it does on the webserver.
(5 minutes later)

This has a tick for everything on the Development Releases Status page (https://portableapps.com/development/test/status) so shouldn't be far away.
Well done MaienM = ]

Nice, didn't know about that page. I found one minor mistake myself, which is the version number I gave to the launcher. I doubt its looked at much, but its wrong at the moment. I'll upload a Pre-Release 4 soon and.... well, that's all there is to say about it

Pre-Release 4 has been released. I think (and hope) that this will be the last pre-release, unless of course someone has found a bug or a new version is released.

I'd never even heard of this until now... and now I'm addicted Games are one thing lacking in the official releases, but hey, that's what the forums are for, right?
If you're still having server issues, I could mirror it on SourceForge for you (I seem to recall they say it has to be "related to my project" in order to host something, but that's a pretty open-ended statement and well, my project is portable-izing OSS apps for the U3 platform so hey, I'd say any app on this site is related!)
Quamquam omniam nescio, nec nihil scio.
Hehe, thanks. Its quite a fun game, and free
I'm not really having server issues aside from having to modify the file permissions of the file after I upload it (mirror 1). Thanks for the offer of hosting it though, I'll keep it in mind

I read where you were having permissions issues, but then I also noticed where right now server 2 is marked as offline, so just thought I'd offer.

Its been back online for almost a week now.... stupid me

The Mana World 0.0.29 has been released.
I know
However, while merging the sources the developers broke the command line option I use....
I submitted a patch to fix that already, which will be in 0.0.29.1. I also found someone who is willing to compile a fixed version of 0.0.29 for me, so I can release a portable version of it. Until he has done that, I cannot release 0.0.29 portable
Non-geek version: You'll have to wait for a bit longer

EDIT: The icon doesn't show in the window title bar.
PortableApps.com Advocate
I know. Thats because we're using a custom build, and for some reason that one doesn't have the icon embedded in correctly I'll look into fixing that later today, might release a PR6 if I get it added in. For now, bear with it

I thought of starting to play MMORPGs again, as it's been a while now. So I checked the original site after I foud this over here, but both mirrors are possibly down!
All I get on mirror 1 is a file with the size of 268 Bytes and a server timeout on mirror 2.
Just wanted to mention this. Maybe others have the same problems!?
Actually it's the Pre-Release 6 Version.
Mirror 1, after having sent the header Content-type: application/octet-stream, produces a PHP warning. Warning: readfile(TMWPortable_0.0.28.1_PRERELEASE6.paf.exe) [function.readfile]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/bensaws/public_html/sites/mmfail.co.cc/download/index.php on line 227). Viz, upload permissions are wrong.
Mirror 2 times out.
P.S. If you really need to use a PHP file to redirect it etc., use file_get_contents as it's simpler

Damnit, I'm sure I changed the file permissions after uploading. I even double checked and confirmed the file downloaded was working correctly..... I'll fix it later today when I get back home. Mirror 2 will be back too then, since that is my (now turned-off) home pc.

Alright, both should be fixed now. The problem with the first mirror seems to be caused by a change in the server config, which broke my download-count script.
Problem with the second mirror was because my internet at home was failing, which I (luckily) managed to fix.
Behold, the DutchLander has arrived.

Ok, so I downloaded mirror 1 and just clicked on mirror 2 for testing
I installed the game and had some problems with flickering screens in fullscreen mode. But this was gone after switching off the OpenGL!! (I know I got probs with OpenGL due to Quake 3 Arena isn't running properly also!!)
Game runs good! Hope to meet somebody of you there!!

0.0.29.1 has been released
a quote from release notes.
I am testing the new version by just dropping the 0.0.29.1 files over the top of my 0.0.29.0 Portable installation (before he went back to 0.0.28.1). So far, so good. Plus, it looks like they made a lot of bugfixes, so definitely worth looking into putting out this version.

Yeah, I know there is a new release. I'll release a updated portable after the weekend
