Launch change & additional feature

Two things:

1 - a run command like is there on the normal window start menu.

2 - ability to run without the tray icon, just a standard minimize to the toolbar. If there is an option to run without the tray icon then the menu could be used as the start menu in a windows PE environment ot run tools from a bootable cd\ufd. Great uses for diagnosis and repair of systems and you could still use it the portable apps from within the existing OS.

Command Prompt Portable?

Is that what you want? It's an app hosted here.

Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.

I think he means a little

I think he means a little box added at the bottom of the menu, or a button that will bring up a dialog box, that will execute whatever the user types into it.

I was more after a run

I was more after a run dialog like you get with the existing windows start menu as opposed to a CMD window. The CMD would work but not as elegant.

Launchy?

Launchy (launchy.sourceforge.net) is a pretty neat tool that lets you execute programs or shortcuts by typing. If I remember correctly, it already has an option for running from a USB drive, so it should be relatively easy to get into PortableApps format.

Launchy has been discussed previously here:
https://portableapps.com/node/3483

And has been mentioned in several other locations.

I've never created a portable app, but if no one else takes in on, maybe I'll give it a tray.

Interesting

Not quite what I'm after. Though interesting. In general I know exactly where it is and in most case I use the RUN when I need to run something with some set of switches and don't need to see the output or know the application stays up until something is done first.

Ahh, but there's more...

I guess I should have mentioned it in my post, but there are plug-ins for Launchy that allow you to run CLI commands from Launchy. There are two of these: Commander and Runny.

Commander runs command line commands behind the scenes, somewhat similar to run, but does not show any output (I don't know why).

Runny is a configurable run shortcut that can accept arguments. The example I saw was that you could create a command called mail that takes one argument, and when you typed mail somebody@somewhere.com, it would call mailto: somebody@somewhere.com.

I hope this helps,

Don

p.s. I posted a portable version of Launchy earlier today for people to test out.
