Changing homepage from CD at runtime

Submitted by joge on June 15, 2007 - 8:50am

Hi there,

first of all I want to say how great the portable solution is.

We plan to develop a CD-ROM that will use Firefox Portable. Via autostart we launch a custom SplashScreen, where the user can choose a language for the content to be shown with FFP.

My question: is it possible to say FFP to have different homepages depending on the language the user chose? Remember, this will be a CD-ROM, so no chance to write any prefs or something...

Thank you and best regards!

Firefox crashes on start up

Submitted by rrostie on June 14, 2007 - 3:30pm

I downloaded and installed Firefox Portable several moths ago, but it has since stopped working. Before I updated it, nothing would happen at all, now it just crashes after a few seconds.
I usually took the USB key out of the computer without closing the browser and it would reload the last session before it stopped working.

Slow Bookmark updates

Hello there,
as it has been noted on https://portableapps.com/node/2118 already, bookmark updates are somewhat... well a dead turtle is slow, but taking 70 seconds to write a 350 kB bookmarks file is not just slow, it is excruciating; never been so close to punch my laptop before.

And everytime you do something in the Bookmark Manager, even if you just try to drag a folder somewhere else (but fail), you will have to wait for over a minute.

Splashscreen (FirefoxPortable.jpg) ...

... shows the string "Firefox., Portable Edition"
(similar in the Thunderbird RC)

Could this be a fault?

Because in German a dot followed by a comma is a fault.

The old FirefoxPortable.jpg shows
"Firefox.-Portable Edition"
this was better but without the dot it will be the perfect solution!

"Firefox - Portable Edition"

If the string is a consequence of the license agreement with Mozilla and not a fault please let me know.

Marko

Firefox Portable + javascript enabled = weird Digg problem

Submitted by andersonmanly on June 13, 2007 - 10:34pm

I have been experiencing some problems lately with Firefox portable while visiting Digg.com. I've narrowed the problem down to javascript being enabled or disabled. When it's disabled, Digg works just fine. When javascript is enabled, with all sub-options unchecked, and I click on a story, a new tab will open up, but the article that I was trying to read doesn't come up. Instead, I get the Digg "Opps, the page you are trying to find cannot be found" page. The weird thing is that in the address bar, the URL of the website that I was trying to go to is there. Anyone else had this problem?

How can I add "Full Screen" to rightclick context menu?

Submitted by HiFlight on June 12, 2007 - 7:51pm

I would like to add the Full Screen command to my right click context menu to avoid having to reach for the F11 key, as the menu bar containing "View" is not visible when in fullscreen mode.

On previous editions of Firebird, it was located in the right click menu, but I can't remember if it was there by default or if I somehow installed it there.

Any suggestions welcome. I am running Firefox portable v2.0.0.4

TIA

Ron
