Hey folks...been using FFP for some time but just now am getting to where I want to synch my desk top w/ the thumb drive.
I tried a bookmark synch app but only the desk top would work and the thumbdrive unit would not....I do not know if there are any limitaitons on the portable one.....I also would like to synch my extensions for both browsers the desk top and thumb drive but do not have the time or the tech savvy to debug.....
Your comments and suggestions welcomed.....!
PS since I'm a newbie how did this happen...?......

Is there a way to open FFP (or FF) in "safe mode", i.e. without loading extensions? I installed an extension which now has crashed my firefox, and I don't really feel up to the task of rebuilding my 30 extensions with all of my settings.
Thanks
Like it says. I tried importing preferences into Tab Mix Plus, but when I clicked My Documents in the open dialog it showed a blank space. I went to Windows Explorer and saw that when I clicked My Documents I was redirected into Firefox Portable/Data/userprofile. I use the FirefoxPortable.ini file to map userprofile to that folder, as specified in the Firefox Portable support page. I'm not sure what exactly caused this, but the only thing I was doing at the time was installing extensions and configuring a newly downloaded Beta 2 Portable.
I set up FFP on a 1 GB thumb drive yesterday, along with Thunderbird, Foxit Reader, NVU Portable, and a couple other apps. Firefox was up & running like a champ, I imported my bookmarks from my home installation of Firefox, and I was quite happy with it (digital watch & all ).
Seeing as how I still had a ton of space left over on my drive, I got a bright idea (queue dramatic music of something bad about to happen) and attempted to install a minimalist version of Linux on the same drive.
Before i go any further, let me explain my rationalle. The linux installtion (http://runt.mybox.org/) is intended to function if the flash drive is used as a bootable device. The install only uses about 128 MB and a posting on the discussion board for the distro even seems to suggest that it's possible to save media to the drive & access it again http://runt.mybox.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=57&start=0&postdays=0&posto...
Firfox 2.0 is going to include a built-in session manager. Since session managers tend to be an exceedingly bad idea when FFP is installed on a flash drive, I wanted to know if this was going to cause problems. I *think* the session manager is only operative when you perform an update or install an extension, so it shouldn't slow down normal opperation the way most session managers do, but I thought I'd check.
I'd love to move to portable Firefox beta 2.0, but I don't want to lose all my settings from 1.5: can I safely upgrade the to 2.0, even if it is a major release, using the "Upgrading Firefox Portable" hints?
Thanks!
The Firefox icon at top left corner was easily replacable in previous "beta" version of PFF browser. However, because of hierarchical differences in folder-structure of the current PFF (1.5.0.6), I could not do this easily. How can I replace Firefox icon with mine in Firefox Portable 1.5.0.6? Thanks.
Firefox has a feature to add extensions that are defined in the Windows registry. Well, this is something that I definitely DO NOT want to happen when using portable firefox. It would be a nice feature to have a warning that registry extensions are available, and prompt the user to allow them to occur.
For the short term, I hacked the nsExtensionManager.js by commenting out the lines in the try block, and leaving the catch block alone in the WinRegInstallLocation function. Maybe this info can help somebody else too.
Hello,
I want to open Files like Doc or avi directly with portable open office or portablevlc, without searching the application or integrating launchy. Is this possible?
Thanks,
Thomas
