It's that time again, and we're in need of our translators - new and old - to help update translations for the next release of the PortableApps.com Platform. We're in need of updates for all our supported languages as well as any we don't yet support for the PortableApps.com Platform 1.6 Translations.

Every year, SourceForge.net hosts a Community Choice Awards where open source projects like ours are nominated and then voted on in different categories like "Most Likely to Change the World", "Best Project" and "Most Likely to Be the Next $1B Acquisition". PortableApps.com, as one of the largest open source projects on SourceForge.net, should have a shot this year. We're asking for your help in getting nominated.
As we're leading up to the launch of the next release of the PortableApps.com Platform along with many of the key apps, we're in need of some assistance with translation of strings for the new PortableApps.com Installer. This will be used both for apps we release here on PortableApps.com as well as by other publishers that are packaging apps in PortableApps.com Format.
Since the release of Windows Vista, there have been a number of inquiries about whether the PortableApps.com Suite and the rest of the apps published here run on Vista or not. PortableApps.com is proud to announce that, yes, everything here works on Vista. The PortableApps.com Suite 1.0 has worked on Vista since the day it was released in November 2006. Since that time, all the apps that are not bundled with the Suite have also been updated to work correctly with Vista.
For anyone wondering why it's been a little quiet around here, there's been a lot going on behind the scenes. We're getting ready to release a new set of updates to the apps and we'd like to get a few more beta testers to take a look at some of the pre-releases. Updated versions of Firefox Portable, OpenOffice.org Portable, AbiWord Portable, Gaim Portable, FileZilla Portable, ClamWin Portable, Portable Apps Backup and more have been posted in the Beta Testing Forum. These updates add new features, new functionality and Vista compatibility among other things. They're not quite ready for general release, so, the more folks we have testing these out, the better. If you have a few minutes to spare, please pop into the Beta Testing Forum and give a few of them a try and post your results back to the appropriate topic. Thanks!
PortableApps.com has officially launched. PortableApps.com is a community site devoted to the development, promotion and use of portable applications. The site was created by John T. Haller (aka me), the developer behind numerous portable applications (like Portable Firefox, Portable Thunderbird and Portable OpenOffice.org) as a way to centralize the knowledge and development efforts of multiple portable application efforts. PortableApps.com now hosts all of my portable applications including the Portable Apps Suite as well support pages, discussion forums, a directory of portable applications and resources for developers of portable apps.
