Allway Sync 'n' Go PAF

Submitted by mojo4616 on April 29, 2008 - 5:21pm

I've downloaded Allway Sync 'n' Go in Portable Application Format (for USB sticks). I've installed it on my computer's harddisk. After a while I moved the application's files to another location on my harddisk. Next time I tried to start the application, it didn't! An error message appeared, stating that the file '03.ini' could not be found. I can start the application with the 'syncappw.exe' file that's in the 'Bin' folder of the application. Can anyone tell me what's happening and what the difference is between the files 'AllwaySync'n'Go.exe' and 'syncappw.exe'?

Infrarecorder request

I though I would be happy with IR starting up in Express mode but now I rather have it start up in normal mode. Why? Well, if it starts in express mode and you click on something another window opens.. I don't know how or what is done to make it portable, but I have an habbit of closing the express window. This might trigger the launcher's clean up mode?

So I guess I would like to request IR starting up normally and make the Express optional (through a choice at install time for example).

I hope you understand.

Vdub problem

Submitted by Warhawk on April 24, 2008 - 11:01am

Whenever I try to open an .avi file from my mp3 player, it says..."Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'XVID' (unkown)
VirtualDub requires a Video for Format(VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. Directshow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable."

How can I get around this?
I can't seem to open any avi file.

PDFTK Builder Help File

I tried going to "Help" (F1) in PDFTK Builder, but it says that it cannot find "pdftkbuilder.hlp". I went to the app directory and sure enough it was there. Could this be a "working directory" problem? BTW, I know I'm not the only one, I found with google others talking about this same issue using this portable version. Thanks.

InfraRecorder - BSOD when started from portable drive

Submitted by freemp on April 17, 2008 - 3:46am

I've just experienced a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) while trying to burn a compilation using InfraRecorder 0.44.1_Rev_3 (more precisely, after InfraRecorder launched mkisofs).

I don't remember I ever had a BSOD on my system. Another DVD burning software installed on the portable drive works just fine.

After that, just for curiosity, I've installed the same version of InfraRecorder_Portable onto the host system (instead of the portable drive). Launched from there, however, the BSOD did not occur.

Vista and XP Testers Requested

Submitted by wraithdu on April 16, 2008 - 10:23am

I think there's some performance issues with the NSIS System plugin and Windows Vista.

I really need Vista testers for this, but some XP machines are needed also as a baseline.

If you would like to help my testing, please download the zip file, and run each EXE. It should popup a dialog box in 10-20 seconds. During this time, could you open Task Manager and watch the CPU usage for the executable. Please report back the EXE you ran, the average CPU usage, and the time elapsed (from the dialog).

And would the Vista testers also say whether or not you have UAC on or off.

Thanks!!

Security alert from WinMerge 2.8 Launcher

Submitted by Alan_B on April 13, 2008 - 12:37pm

Is nsExec.dll a self-mutating virus !!!

When I use PAM to launch WinMerge 2.8, my Comodo Security Firewall is very worried.
EVERY TIME it is worried.

When I use PAM to launch OpenOffice, Comodo never gives an alert.
It probably did give an alert last year when I first used it, but it honoured my request to REMEMBER and it has not troubled me since.

When I use PAM to launch WinMerge 2.8, my Comodo Security warns :-

1. Red Alert
Defense+ malware heauristic analysis has detected possible malware behaviour in
C:\Documents and Settings\Dad\Local Settings\Temp\nsi2F.tmp\ns30.tmp

Import configuration from Installed to Portable Winmerge.

Submitted by Alan_B on April 12, 2008 - 11:34am

I recently installed the Portable version of Winmerge 2.6.14 on my external USB Hard Drive.

I abhore the default configuaration when I launch it from the PortableApps.com menu.

It does what I want if I use Windows Explorer to select and double click
H:\PortableApps\WinMergePortable\App\WinMerge\WinMergeU.exe

Before I knew of PortableApps, I INSTALLED Winmerge 2.6.12. on my Drive C:\, and spent a lot of time adjusting its configuration to meet my exact needs. I do not wish to repeat all that work again.
