Hi,
I have searched the forums but...
I am completely new to any sort of programming and have managed to make a batch file (which will launch on hitting "enter" when I insert the USB drive on XP SP2 computers) to start PStart to launch my apps, Cryptainer mobile (seems rather like TrueCrypt and as I had a paid for version so can have containers bigger than my 1Gb drive I am using this)with my apps encrypted on it and CruzerSync (which came with the Sandisk Titanium drive) to carry Outlook emails and folders of data from My Documents at home.
However, I would like to close any open apps and the above with one click so I can exit my drive.
ie, a visual Ide without to learn NSIS or something else. I only need to load the exe file, choose the destination directory, tell the registry item, then it writes a portable app
thanx
Hi
I have just a quick query in the root of my USB i have the list of Portable Applications that i loaded from the application suite.
But when i have updated the different applications the .exe files dont work. I did try to create a shortcut which works on my main pc but when i go onto another machine the usb gets another drive letter so the shortcut does not work. How can i create a .exe file in the root that works because ifi i copy the exe file over from the new update it does not work??
We need a portable application that sets all portable applications as the default when on and sets them back to their normal settings when off. Anybody got any ideas?
I recently had a portable thumb drive of mine stolen from me while I was at work. I was wondering if anyone has heard of or know of any kind of application that would be useful in recovering the drive, or atleast trace routing to anyone who would happen to have loaded the drive onto their pc. I was thinking about adding something to the autoplay to have it "dial-home". I know of several ways to do this using certian types of viruses, but I wasn't wanting something quite so malicious. I was thinking about a small application that would just send an email, or anything with IP address information to a set email account.
Has anyone tried or have any Ideas on making a Portable Version of Pararllels Workstation http://www.parallels.com/en/?
It seams fairly lightweight in size at least after the install. It doesn't look like it covers 90% of the Host OS like VMware does. Im looking for a EMU that is light weight like qEMU that will Support XP but is faster then qEMU.
Does anyone have any recommendations of a EMU besides qEMU that can be portable and has decent speed?
Regards,
MrChris
I don't know if any of you have tried www.youos.com but its pretty awesome. Its a prototype operating system in your browser. Works in Firefox, IE, XP, Mac Ubuntu.... oh the power of Ajax. Youos is an operating system, complete with installable applications, folder structure, messaging, document management.... in theory everything XP, MAC or Ubuntu can do.
And then there are alternatives like the mythically amazing looking Foldera and Eyeos.net
And then there are the stand alone webapps like Writeley, Gmail, Google spreadsheets.... you can even get webabbs that are starting to mimic Photoshop, Viseo and Powepoint...

is there anything similar to the software mentioned in the above link? this app would end all our portable problems. hope there is a personal edition for free.
Ok, I am super new at this, although ive been reading and searching the forums. Forgive me if this is in the wrong place. I just started playing with portable apps, and I love the idea of having firefox and other apps I use with me at work. I had an idea though. If I installed DSL Linux on a USB drive, and ran it on my work computer, do you think that it would detect the network connection and allow unrestricted access to the net? Let me say that I am not trying to look at anything illegal, or against company policy or anything like that. I just want to know if I can have it work like at home. Many forums and such are blocked en mass by the server, and ive even talked to the IT guy who unblocks them for me, but I hate bugging him all the time.
