Download selected apps idea/concept

Submitted by agdurrette on March 13, 2010 - 12:41pm

This is a concept idea that I thought of and I think it would be cool if could be implemented into the website.

It would be like a checkout system on a online store.

1) You would select the applications you want to download on the application list or on the apps page.

2) Once your done you will "checkout" and download the installer and the list of apps you want to download.

3) Then you run the installer it checks, you select where you want all of them to be installed to if the PA.c menu is not installed or selected it will ask if you want it or not.

It has come to our attention that McAfee's family of antivirus products is currently using a majorly broken set of antivirus definitions and finding false positive in several portable launchers and lots of other software.

Current affected products include:
- The PortableApps.com Platform
- Pidgin Portable
- GIMP Portable (I can't confirm this, VirusTotal says GIMPPortable.exe is fine by McAfee)
- OpenOffice.org Portable (I can't confirm this, VirusTotal says OpenOfficePortable.exe is fine by McAfee)
- and others

One of my favorite natively portable freeware launchers, Cylog Toolbox, has posted a beta for their 3.0 release. I've been following them on Twitter, and they've done a lot of work on this major release.
Check out the list of new features (under Coming up in ToolBox v3.00):

Even the old version had some great stuff, like drag-and-drop shortcuts, switch to relative paths at the click of a button, change icons easily, wallpaper and transparency backgrounds, and support for multiple toolboxes.

Internet Exploder screws up Online PAF installers

I was using Internet Exploder on my school's PC to go over and download some portableapps, when something odd occurred. I went to install google chrome, and it asked if I want to open or save the program as normal. (the only good feature of IE imo) I hit open, and it said that it won't run because it isn't named online.paf. However, the problem is if you open a file in Internet Exploder instead of hitting save, it give it a random name before opening it, therefore breaking the installer.

Another reason to hate IE I suppose.

PortableAppsthemes on deviantArt

I've noticed a lot of themes for PortableApps menu and other portable launchers on DeviantArt So I thought I'd start a group **I don't intend on this being official PortableApps.com group** just thought it might be a good place to combine and gather the people who upload to DeviantArt into one gathering... I'd also like this to be a group where people can add themes/skins for Apps that are portable as well as the awesome PortableApps.com platform, geekmenu or any of the other portable platforms/launchers or menus..
