Menu Icon

Submitted by mistermouse on January 23, 2008 - 6:44am

Hi one and all, I am new to this forum and rubbish with a computer, so expect some pretty basic questions in the future! I installed the full suite on my usb drive a few days ago and think it's great, so all works fine but two questions, should the menu icon be one the taskbar even when usb is not connected and is the X at the bottom right of the menu there to close it. Every time I try to "safely remove" a message tells me the drive is still in use. Any advice would be helpful but keep it in simple terms! My OS is XP Pro. Thanks in advance.

Deleting PortableApps left extra drive letter

Submitted by connortn on January 22, 2008 - 8:50pm

I needed my I-stick for another purpose and decided to delete the portableapps program. I deleted everything including hidden items, formated both drive letters shown and still the extra drive letter continues to show. Main drive letter "E" is showing 900+MB memory and drive "F" 10MB.

How do I wipe out the "F" drive? I can't find any information about doing so and hope someone here can help.

Thanks....

Connor

Hard drive icon corrupted

Submitted by DavidA on January 22, 2008 - 4:08pm

I was having trouble getting Portable Apps to install on a USB drive and someone suggested setting it up on the hard drive and then transfering the whole thing. Well that worked, but the setup changed the disk icon to a custom icon. Two questions: Why? And now that I have moved all the Portable Apps files I have been left with a bum icon, looks like a file that has no association. I am not the only person who uses this machine so down the road this is going to cause confusion. How can I get the generic hard drive icon back.

Thanks,

David

Auto run (sorry )

Submitted by Bevis on January 22, 2008 - 2:14pm

Hi

I am new to this app's stuff, about 24 hours, everything works great except the auto run. I have searched some of the forums and have noticed that you have to copy certain items into the USB main directory, well those items are in but still does not auto run. Can anyone tell me what's wrong.

cheers

Using portable apps that don't have a PortableApps.com installer

Submitted by evilRafael on January 21, 2008 - 2:32pm

First off, to whomever may concern, you guys are doing a great work, I use this little software all time! Keep it up!

Say I got one of those old applications that don't need installation on a computer, you just unzip to your preferred folder and double-click the executable to run it, and it just works. Is there a way to copy the application folder into my USB drive and add its icon to my PortableApps.com Menu? In other words, install an already portable application to the menu without an installer...

Thanks in advance.

TeamViewer

I found a killer portable application that lets you connect to other PCs for remote access, tech support, file sharing and more.

Perfect if you are on a public computer and would like to access your computer at home.

Check it out!

Developing freeware that claims compatibility with PortableApps?

Submitted by pgfearo on January 19, 2008 - 6:37pm

I've read the forum threads and understand the objections to including freeware (that is not OpenSource) or listing it on PortableApps.

One question: Would it be acceptable though for me to create a 'PortableApps Friendly' version of my freeware application and label it as such on my own site?

For the case of this application, the key constraints would be:
1. Store profile data and settings on the app path using a conforming directory structure
2. Write no data to the host machine (OS initiated MUI settings are acceptable)
