Update and Sourceforge links are not working.

Submitted by JP_Boston on July 25, 2015 - 2:35am

Manual or automatic updates for firefox free download managers and other apps are not working. It seems anything with the narrower Download now linkbox does not work. Perhaps this will be fixed during the Portable apps site work. This is the first trouble I've had with Portable Apps.com hosted programs. I hope this is just a bump in the road. I prefer using Portable Apps to going all over to update my apps. Good luck.

Replacing SourceForge

Hey guys,

Due to recent controversy around SF.net, some ad blockers (uBlock for example) now prevent you by default from as much as visiting sourceforge.

I understand that there was no harm done specifically to Portable Apps project, but it is worth to think whether it is a good idea to host PA on a site that is widely considered harmful.

Bintray is a good alternative, worth exploring, and they are 100% free for open source apps.

Extracting setup files: effect on PC performance?

Hi there

The main reason I use portable apps is to keep my computer running as fast as possible. So far for the majority of software I use I've managed to find a portable version or at least a suitable portable alternative. But I also use many programs that aren't portable, and I thought that I would have to install all those to my computer. After some googling I discovered UniExtract, and I'm quite relieved that it works most of the time.
