More Favorites in main menu?

Submitted by drsprite on April 9, 2015 - 12:54pm

I'm using Platform 12.0.5. Is it possible to have more than the standard count of icons / favorites in the main menu? Currently, I have 19 favorites, and want to add more, but there's no room on the main menu area.

I know I can click on the "All Portable Apps" link to open the categories, but the Favorites list is nice and quick.

If we can't have more than 19 icons, then maybe a folder under "All Portable Apps" that has the Favorites listed, that way I can have as many favorites as I want.

Thoughts?

Thanks

PA.c license(s) question

Submitted by rappard on April 9, 2015 - 8:06am

What's the exact open source license(s) (BSD, GPL, MIT, ...) PA.c is distributed with? http://wikipedia.org/wiki/PortableApps.com (right-hand side) says:

GPLv2, LGPLv2, MIT License, MPL 1.1, wxWindows Library Licence

But I can't find any mention of these on the PA.com site. Or do the above refer to (some of) the software packages bundled with PA.c? If so, what license is PA.c itself licensed under?

Thanks,

Martin

Figuring out CommandLineArguments for shortcuts.

Submitted by wolfshaven on April 2, 2015 - 9:57am

I've spent the last three days going through documentation, official apps, and forum threads... A search of “command line arguments” brings up 13 pages alone, “CommandLineArguments” is 7 only pages but most of that can be found in the first search.

solanus' Folderz and QuickStart examples are great starters, however they don't cover CommandLineArguments. That said I haven't found enough information to help me figure out what I'm doing wrong. Anyway this is my latest failed attempt..

Autorun.ini syntax - Customizing my USB drive icon...

Submitted by michele.bartole... on March 31, 2015 - 11:48am

Dear Users,

I'd like my USB drive to appear with an icon I stored in the following path: Documents/Pictures/Icone di supporto/usb.ico, but it seems that I can't reach the correct syntax for Desktop.ini.

My attempt:

[.ShellClassInfo]
IconFile=.\Documents\Pictures\Icone di supporto\usb.ico
IconIndex=0

I don't know, the icon remains the default one.
Maybe a matter of attributes (hidden/system folder or anything similar?)

Thank you for your help!

Portable but not PA

Submitted by Wm ... on March 28, 2015 - 2:46am

CloneVDI
FreeCommander (the 2009 version that actually works)
Piriform CCleaner
Piriform Defraggler
FreeFileSync (it works for me)
QSlite

I know JTH will balk at FFS but it does work.

This list is intended for people to report progs they know to be portable rather than an exercise room for people with previous attitudes.

If you know of something that is freely available and portable tag on. I'll check the basics but if an App is something I'm not familiar with we'll need cross references

Interesting problem with JPortable

Submitted by mredz on March 27, 2015 - 2:36am

When a newer version of Java is installed locally on the PC Firefox will launch applets with that newer version of Java even though Firefox will report that it is using the version portable version of Java both in about:plugins and the addons screen. If you launch the Java console and press s to get system properties you can see it is using the local copy. The confounds using the portable version to install Jars into the extensions or security directory. Is there any possible work arounds for this at all?

Wrong version of Google Chrome listed in the updater?

Submitted by SGB74 on March 27, 2015 - 2:30am

When running the portableapps internal updater, I get a prompt for a Google Chrome update ver. 42.0.2311.60 that fails to update. Upon checking the chrome release page for this build it seems that its a build for Chrome OS. Screenshots posted below.

When checking the latest build for my local version of Chrome it shows Version 41.0.2272.101 m as being the up to date version.

Cache of Opera Portable, SRWare Iron Portable

Submitted by phuc on March 25, 2015 - 10:01pm

I have used a lot of portable of PortableApps, including Google Chrome Portable.

I was happy when Google Chrome Portable save cache in the Temp folder, and delete cache automatically on exit.

But I do not see this in Opera Portable, SRWare Iron Portable. Sad Its save cache in *Data\User\Default\Cache and not delete cache automatically on exit. This is not consistent with Portable.

Thank you for attention my opinion. Wish you good health.

XP exit stage left to applause

Sometime next week I'll make the leap from WinXP SP3 to Win8.1 as in, I won't have anything running XP natively on any home kit and the WinXP kit will retire to a long, active and happy Linux life.

I've stood for XP continuation through use for a while, this is the swansong for me.

There are a handful of other Win XP users here, to them I say goodnight and thank you for the journey.

To everyone else that bore with me and others, thank you for your time.
