Portable Multi-Program General Spelling Dictionaries

Submitted by Tenzen on April 7, 2013 - 9:13pm

Does anyone know a way to get a portable program which doesnt have its own internal spelling dictionaries, but has support for external dictionaries, to use a stand-alone dictionary of some sort for its spell check function?

I'm trying to use the portable version of Smart Diary Suite Free edition and I'd like to find a way to add a dictionary to my USB drive that it could read..

maybe someone knows about another portableapps program that has its own dictionary that I could point to?

Automated services disabling app

Submitted by AMDfan on April 6, 2013 - 10:39am

I was wondering if there was an app out there that could be made portable that could automatically disable unnecessary services to speed up a computer.. iolo System Mechanic 9 and up comes with such a program, called Energy Booster, and it does a really nice job.. I would love to have something similar on my PortableApps list to use on peoples computers when I do tune-ups for them.

Donation: New Logitech K270 wireless keyboard?

Submitted by captivater on April 4, 2013 - 9:50pm

Hi. I've been enjoying your guys' platform for some time now. I try to donate to software companies whose creations I enjoy.

Money has been kind of tight for me in recent months. I've been wanting to donate some money to PA for a while. Through chance, I received a retail Logitech K270 via a warranty repair. It uses unifying receiver. Would any developer working on this project be in need?

If so please message me.

Thanks PA.

PortableApps launchers going online

Submitted by Aikiki on April 4, 2013 - 10:32am

I have Firefox Portable, standalone (without the whole PortableApps suite).
Firefox itself (Firefox.exe inside the App\Firefox folder) obviously needs an internet connection to function.

But recently I noticed that FirefoxPortable.exe attempted an outgoing connection as well, which was intercepted by my firewall.
I forgot to check the IP, but anyway..
This is not something I expect from an executable that is only supposed to start a program.

IIRC the same happened with Thunderbird Portable.

How to make app portable?

Submitted by tony200910041 on April 2, 2013 - 7:57am

Sorry it seems that this question is a bit redundant but I really get troubled.
I read so many similar topics and the beginner manual, but there is still a problem:
how to redirect the settings into the portable directory instead of leaving them in the system?
I tried making apps in PortableApps format and replaced the files in other apps with my app, or build a directory with the portable directory structure, but they are still useless.
Please help. Thanks.

PS sorry for my poor English. I hope someone will understand and help me. Thanks.

Max Payne 3 portable

Submitted by Hansj on April 1, 2013 - 7:41am

Tried VMware ThinApp and Cameyo to make Max Payne 3 portable. That game is around 30 GB and consist of a launcher in a separate folder. But the package builds failed.

Though I managed to get it all portable by a simple batch script + junction v1.06 to create symbolic links with.

Here's the batch:
1. It needs to correct current directory because that can change when running as admin
2. Then it needs to correct %DOCUMENTS% environment var because that don't work too, if your computer has changed language during installation etc.

I waffled about whether to put this in General Discussion or Off Topic, but figured as this applied to the site, this is best.

I had a thought recently, that it might make sense to clean up the "Our Team" page by adding a "Past Contributors" heading, and moving those contributors, be they Developers or otherwise, who are no active in working with the site in some fashion, so as to provide a more accurate picture of the number of current contributors to the community.

Virus in JKDefrag download

Submitted by Timelord2067 on March 26, 2013 - 8:05pm

Greetings,

a few days ago I did a virus scan (with ClamWin Portable) of a WinXP box with JKDefrag (non portable apps) installed - it came up with a virus, so I scanned my portable apps usb containing JKDefrag Portable and it also came up with a virus - about a half hour ago I downloaded the latest version of JKDefrag and got

C:\Download\Install\PA_2013_Q1\JkDefragPortable_3.36_Rev_2.paf.exe: Win.Trojan.Autoit-350 FOUND

via ClamWin.
