Recommended Method for Including my own Apps

Submitted by NFarrar on May 14, 2013 - 10:28am

Hello All,

I have a 'kit' that I use regularly. It includes the following types of apps (none of which follow the portableapps standard - in fact I haven't used portableapps in the past and am not using it now, though I'd like to):

Applications which are not portable, must be installed and registered (they requiring licensing).
Applications which are 'portable - i.e. I copy them on and run them without installation).
Applications which are 'portable' and run in the command line interface.
Python scripts which run in the terminal.

Chrome Portable - Not Closing Down 26.0.1410.64

Submitted by hepburn3d on May 14, 2013 - 3:32am

I've noticed this on a few forums but the solution found by others is not working for me.

When chrome is closed a chrome.exe is still running in the task manager. In the following forums they recommend disabling background apps, which I have.

The current work around solution I've found is to use a bat to kill the processes:

taskkill /f /im chrome.exe 2>nul

header box

In the header box above, the last line is probably meant to be "Please donate, so we can keep releasing new and updated awesome apps!", with donate, new, updated & apps being the links.

The way it is now, both "update" and "release" are incorrectly used, at least in a grammatical sense, anyway.

Newest Notepad++Portable hung, then refuses to open ever again

Submitted by OsakaWebbie on May 13, 2013 - 8:45am

I use PortableApps on my hard drive because I like the cleanliness and maintenance. Today the launcher offered to upgrade a few apps, including Notepad++Portable, and I let it do so. The next time I tried opening a file with N++ and it got stuck - I could see the program window and the file I tried to open (and a couple other files that had been open before), but on top of that was a never-ending splash screen. I forcefully closed it, tried running it again, and it said it needed to clean up and then I could open it again.

Annoying Error Message

Submitted by realnabarl on May 12, 2013 - 4:07am

I really need your help.

Every time I close an app without a regular exit, on next launch this message will show:

"Last exit of [appname] portable didn't restore settings. Would you try to restore local and portable settings now?"

In many cases I prefer logging off my Windows without exit softwares manually, I feel OK with that. But this message is just annoying. How to avoid it?

Hi im toady

I work on the cyberfox project witch is a x64bit variant of Firefox based from there source code.

I have put allot of time and resources into this project and do offer a portable version of cyberfox.

My question is how do i get it submitted to your awesome collection of great apps.

Im not sure your views on x64bit applications but would really like to provide my user base with the ability to automatically update cyberfox through the portable apps platform or even download it via your application.

Please let me know what steps i need to take.

Chrome Portable - Stand Alone App

Submitted by hepburn3d on May 10, 2013 - 6:23am

Chrome Stand Alone App

I've created a HTML5 app that uses portable chrome to run on Windows PC's.

My customer would like to have it burnt to CD so they can use it anywhere as a program. This works great except for one minor thing. When on a read only device portable chrome prompts the user if it's ok to temporary use the local disk space for a profile. Is it possible to remove or suppress this warning. They are aware of what it is doing but don't need to see the warning. They'd like to not keep hitting yes.

Use portable SeaMonkey with non-portable SeaMonkey

Submitted by Ben09880 on May 9, 2013 - 11:04am

I have yet to try, as I'm worried about what could happen.

I want to use a Full Install of SeaMonkey at the same time as my Portable SeaMonkey- both open at the same time and being tweaked concurrently.

I tried a search, found nothing recent.

My reasons for this:

I want to make a 100% standard theme for SeaMonkey that I can use in my Portable Version. Eventually, I would like to approach somebody about including it somehow.

If nothing else, I would like to learn more from the experience about portablizing apps.
