Temporary replacement for the upcoming file associations feature?

Submitted by tarruda on March 25, 2013 - 8:25am

Hi

I've just downloaded portableapps 12 beta 2 but still could not find a way to manage file associations, anyone know of a replacement that will work on the current portableapps version? I have found this : https://portableapps.com/node/15583 but the link seems to be broken.

do portable apps REALLY leave nothing behind?

Submitted by dh127 on March 22, 2013 - 4:56am

okay, so i'm an idiot ~

PortableApps.com states:

"A portable app doesn't leave files or folders behind on the PC."

is there truly NOTHING left behind on a laptop you're hooked into with your portable apps on a flash drive?

what if they have a key-stroke recording program installed on the laptop?

my laptop has to go in for repair and they will give me a "loaner" ie: used laptop until i get mine back. will it really be safe to use my passwords, check my bank balance, pay my bills?

thank you!!!

Portable Apps 11.2 - Installing Apps always hangs

Submitted by Nerdio on March 19, 2013 - 5:58am

I have just installed Portable Apps 11.2 onto a 32GB SD Card (to try out).

I have managed to install one App (CppCheckPortable), but when I try to install another, it just hangs. More than hangs, I cannot shut my PC down. I notice the same thing if I select multiple apps to install, it hangs on the first one every time.

My PC is running Windows 8 64-Bit.

Any ideas someone?

Continuous Backup Software Advice

Hi,

I installed new win7 version (from home to ultimate). Before new installation I had My Book connected and automatic backup on.

C and D partition were backed up on the My Book. D partition stayed the same (on computer), with only minor changes in new files. C partition is system, so it's completely changed...and it's not really important to be backed up because I don't keep any docs there.

The need for Portable QVD Editor or why we created it

Submitted by dbsoftlab on March 16, 2013 - 7:38pm

When we work with new customers quite often we can see a lot of QVD files.
Some of them are quite old and no one is able to tell what is inside and why they were created.
Traditional way was creating script and loading it in to QlikView.
Which is a lot of work if there are a lot QVD files
We just wanted to able to see the content of QVD file.

So we created QEye

Later we released that it will be really great to be able to edit QVD/QVX files.

And this functionality was introduced in QEye version 2:

Word of warning regarding QuipZilla Portable

Submitted by syndicate.01 on March 16, 2013 - 5:44pm

Whatever you do, do not, I repeat, do not download & use the portable version of qupzilla browser! It is a zombie program that will eat any & all programs, [from the programs main section, or even if you install it in a folder] when it's being uninstalled, leaving you the time consuming task to have to re-install the programs it has "eaten". It can also do an insurmountable amount of damage to your browser & O.S. system. Don't make the mistake that I did with downloading & using this P.A.F. browser program; stay away from it & don't use it!

How best to secure my data with TrueCrypt?

Submitted by mawg on March 16, 2013 - 2:38am

Ok, so ow I have a32gB USB stick loaded with apps. And those apps are going to save data onto the stick. And oen day I am going to lose the stick ... sad, but true.

How woudl you go about securing the data with TrueCrypt?

Have the apps on a parition outside of TrueCrypt and have an encrypted data parition to which to save data?

But that probably only allows me to save files which I create with the apps, not their configuration files?

Should I perhaps encrypt the entire USB stick (except for a very small parition to hold TrueCrypt) and then place the apps plus data in that?
