I just bought a Seagate Freeagent GoFlex Ultra-Portable Drive (1TB) and installed Portable Apps Platform along with my favourite Portable Apps. My understanding is you cant eject this Portable hard drive at all? even from the portable apps platform?

Thanks

Stupid questions

Let's say that a person (We'll call him Bob), made a portable app (let's say app XYZ)a while back. The app XYZ has been updated several times, but the portable app appears to have been abandoned. If after posting a comment on the portale apps page, you still don't get a reply from the author, my question is this. How long should a person wait, before they assume it is abandoned? I've had several apps I've considered updating, but don't want to be considered rude, or step on anyone's toes...

Whats the script for Documents and Settings\Local User\Local Settings\Application Data

Submitted by geoslake on July 12, 2012 - 4:02am

Hi

I need to create a script for programs storing things in that folder.
I know the $appdata of course, and after some research it seems i would have to use $localappdata, but it doesn't seem to work here (and notepad++ doesn't see this as a recognized nsis command anyway).

Thanks

Automatic Proxy URL

Submitted by BatterBits on July 11, 2012 - 6:23am

Hello everyone.

Apologies if this has been answered elsewher - but I've spent a while searching on whatever relevant keywords i can think of - and have drawn a blank.

With the demise of Meebo, I am trying to find a portable IM client that I can use at my workplace.

The problem is, that my work uses an .pac to set the proxy. I can get to and read this file, but I'm unable to determine the settings to use in a proxy config dialog in the IM client.

Platform getting too clever

Submitted by Lanky on July 10, 2012 - 3:57pm

I've used the portable apps menu for some years, always been a fan of the simplicity and the fact that it does what it says on the tin, as it were. Been using the same version of the platform (menu ?) for some years, as it just works, with no unnecessary bells and whistles. However, got a new flash drive today, so thought I'd download and install the latest one, 10.1.2. Didn't want the music so went for the 'basic' one. Oh dear. What's happened to the simple, uncomplicated menu I knew and loved ? Program firing off unasked, window grabbing the focus offering me stuff.

Do portable apps run directly out of the ram of the flash drive?

Submitted by Paulynator on July 10, 2012 - 8:40am

I have a pc with way less RAM than it should so I'm hoping to help alleviate that problem by switching to a portable version of antivirus so I'm wondering: do portable apps run directly out of the ram of the flash drive or do they still use ABOUT the same amount of the the pc's system ram? (I.e. does using the portable version free up ram or just harddrive space?) Thanks for any help.

Portableapps.com and Windows 8

Hi,

First, I searched and found nothing.

With the upcoming (and currently testing) windows 8, I have a question... Many of us uses portable apps instead of installed apps in our computers as a way to keep our registries clean, in my case, I also use portables apps to keep it in my D:\ partition instead of using my smaller c:\ one (this is because I have extra partitions for Ubuntu), and that way I can also use portable apps on linux (trough wine) if I need/want to.

I'm testing windows 8, and now I'm trying to figure out a way to do it, and that's why I came here once more to ask...

Hi to all PortableApps.com stuff,
and all the user that read this!

I Have a suggestion that maybe you like!
For me, what i am about to suggest is very important and make better
the open source. I could not doing this by my self,
so I am presenting the idea here. maybe you like this and you want to
join my idea!

So I am going to present the problem and then my solution.
The world of open source is cool, and it bring new stuff to the program
and the internet! but, if you want to begin and want to help develop
any project of open source, even the small one it very hard to begin!

Really happy with portable Firefox 13

Submitted by dsa2591 on July 2, 2012 - 2:31pm

After struggling for two days with glitches on the regular FF 12 and 13, I finally gave up and just installed portable FF 13 right onto my C drive and it's working like a charm!

I don't have the platform for now, but when I get it, I'll uninstall this and put it on the platform. The platform didn't seem to work well with the programs installed on the computer, but it works great from my Passport external drive, so I'm using it.
