Slow download speeds?

Submitted by Ephemera on July 1, 2012 - 6:24pm

Hi, with school starting again in a couple months, I figured i should start using mostly portable apps again (so i have same programs at school and home)

So i hadn't used the platform in awhile, and when i got it this time, I saw it had a way to get the apps through the platform rather than downloading and installing each one seperately. I selected all the ones i wanted and let it do it's thing.

Can portable apps be installed directly on your computer?

Submitted by dsa2591 on July 1, 2012 - 11:12am

I know, probably a stupid question, but I work at a job that requires me to use either FF 12 or 13, and I'm having a very hard time with them. The Portable FF13 works great. I installed it onto my desktop, and it was working fine until I uninstalled the original FF13, then it just disappeared from the list of apps. I tried reinstalling it, and it said it reinstalled, but it isn't there.

Don't Leave Me Behind

When I use a portable app with a USB drive on someones computer and complete whatever I was doing and remove the drive, is anything left behind that will either change the host computer or identify my usage.

I was always a U3 user and part time portable app user. U3 programs left nothing behind on the host computer but portable not only left things behind but also changed things on the host computer.

LocalName for the Bosnian language

Submitted by tapsklaps on June 22, 2012 - 11:54am

In the table of languages I have searched after an appropriate LocalName for the Bosnian language. But I can't find such a LocalName. On Wikipedia I found out, that the Bosnian language is related with the Croatian or Serbian language. Personally I have decided, that I can use for the Bosnian language the LocalName "Serbian" or "Croatian". What do you think?

Please change the default behaviour to disable splash screen

Submitted by papps_user on June 19, 2012 - 6:02pm

Portableapps.com is beautiful site and effort to creating portable apps.

Having the splash screen is a little waste of time in the app loading and unnecessary. We all know how good portableapps.com is and there's no need for further advertising. It is known in its own right. So please disable it.

Installation / upgrade logs

Submitted by papps_user on June 19, 2012 - 5:59pm

When I run the paf.exe file it either installs or upgrades. When it upgrades, it deletes some files also. It is great that paf.exe file takes care of upgrade intelligently (presumably without loosing old settings and any new settings that were not present in old version, will nicely get merged etc when we start using the app).

It would be useful to see a log of the installation/upgrade process (especially upgrade of course). Presently when I click "show details" it shows deleting.., extracting..., etc but these are lost the moment installation/upgrade is done.

Symantec flags portableapps.com as a fraudulent site

Submitted by JKEngineer on June 15, 2012 - 8:25pm

I generally access the website using IE. I used Chrome Portable today and when the page was half loaded I got diverted to a new page without a URL that stated that a Norton/Symantec chrome-extension was blocking access because this is a known fraudulent site. I have sent an email to an address I found on the Symantec site, but it may not be the right one.

I tried the page in IE with no problem.

This may be the extension that pulled the trigger:
Norton Identity Protection 2012.5.4.6
Symantec Corporation

Here's the text of the page:
