Slow to load applications by start.exe portable apps launcher on i5, i7

Submitted by sanjeevkafle on September 5, 2011 - 1:01pm

The start.exe portable apps launcher takes a very long time to load the list of applications on both my i5 and i7 computers.
However, it does it almost instantly on my older computers. Did anybody ever noticed it?
Does the launcher does not support multiple CPUs? Because even in my i7 it takes about 5-10 seconds to list about 60 applications.
Does the launcher does not support USB 3.0 port?
Or am I missing something? Some i3 processors list all programs almost instantly, however my i7 takes a while.

Any help is appreciated.

Where is the link for XAMPP light ?!

Submitted by saikat on September 5, 2011 - 8:50am

Hi

I have been trying to download XAMPP light.
The link on PortableApps for it is sending me to http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html#646

But there is no link for XAMPP light (28mb). All 3 links there seem to be for full (not lite) version and much larger files.

Am I missing something? Where could I get the light-weight version of XAMPP?

Start app w/ different .ini parms

Submitted by siegfre on August 27, 2011 - 2:17pm

First off, I did a search & did not come up with an answer (though I suspect that there was one buried in there some where).

I'd like too be able to start Chrome portable with a 1 of 2 .ini's which have different Additional Parameters. I know I can edit GoogleChromePortable.ini with the appropriate parms. But I'd like to void having to do the edit when I want to start the app with different parms.

portable app platform

Ok, I just downloaded this and got everything I want on it. But I see you can add you own videos, pictures, and music.

For videos, what file type do that have to be? Do I just add them to the my documents and my videos?
Pictures, can they be .png,.jpeg,.bmp and so on?
Music, Do they have to be .mp3? Or can they be a .wav or .ogg ?

I was just wondering. Because I don't want to screw it up.

blender

Ok, I downloaded blender portable last night and it works on my computer. I took it to school to show my teacher what it is (since you can't download anything at school) and I was letting him do whatever with it and suddenly everything disappeared. He was doing something and everything went gray. You could still see the boxes for everything like the drawing area and menu area but there were no icons or anything. There just gray boxes were everything should of been. Is that the computers doing or the program?

[Fixed] Problem with Google Chrome auto update

Submitted by Bindlestiff on August 26, 2011 - 10:32am

Check for updates brought up a notification regarding the recently updated Google Chrome - 13.0.782.215. Clicking 'next' started the update but eventually I got a nastygram regarding the install, saying that it failed and suggested I try again. I did and got the same thing. Trying on a second external USB drive gave the same result.

Manually downloading the file and installing worked fine.
