Request for Comments - Good Help Files

So with the first pre-release of Toucan 2.0.4 out in the beta testing forums I am now looking at features for the next version. One of the things that irks me the most about the current version is the manual, it is difficult to use and it hasn't kept up with the lastest features.

So here is my question to you the community, are there any help files or manuals for a program that you really like? The more links the better! I shall download and have a look at as many as possible before diving into creating a new manual for Toucan, so your input will make a huge difference.

Directory Printer/Lister

Submitted by Devo on January 6, 2009 - 10:04am

I am looking for a directory printer that is open source and hopefully portable although it is not necessary. I found a really good one, Directory Lister, but unfortunately it is shareware. I've used it and really like all the options for output that it had as well as its configurability. I was wondering if there is something available that somebody has used and could recommend.

If this belongs in another forum please feel free to move it.

Best sites to learn about Flash drive hardware?

Submitted by aahhaa on January 5, 2009 - 1:03pm

A contradicted remark in one thread about flash drive speed vs capacity, and another about hardware encryption, made me think I don't know enough about flash drives as hardware.

Can anybody recommend sites that analyze the drives themselves?

ps Also, somewhat trivially, I wondered if having a few apps each on smaller drives would run faster; and then realized what all this reminds me of: the good old VIC 20 & cart-based computing!:]

Yes, I'm having fun yet!:]

Understanding Privacy Folders

Submitted by aahhaa on January 4, 2009 - 12:29am

I'm a lot more likely to misplace a flashdrive than a desktop computer or laptop, so I got interested in the various security wares different drive makers supply.

Very quickly I found that (at least for one major encryption program) mistakenly yanking the drive prematurely corrupts the secure folder and causes a world of problems. A dumb but easy way to lose vital data.

Also, I wonder if antivirus & firewall programs can do their job properly on files within an encrypted folder. Do they get scanned as they 'emerge'?

Mega All-in-One Complete PortableApps Suite?

Submitted by frosty36 on January 3, 2009 - 12:55am

G'day!
First time poster, short time lurker, long time user here.
I'm at a public library at the moment and I don't have long on this temporary computer.
Just a quick question here.
I love all the portable applications available and would like to get each and every single one of them.
I like the Portable Apps Standard Suite but I am somewhat disgruntled by the fact that it does not include all other applications like the ones listed here (https://portableapps.com/apps).
