Well, it's gotten to the point where I am running out of space on my 2gig cruzer flash drive. I either want to buy an 8gig flash drive or one of the small portable hard drives that I've been seeing around.
What device is faster? At what point of RPM does a hard drive meet the speed of a flash drive?
Which will last longer? I assume that flash drives can get thrown around a little more, but when treated fairly gently, will a hard drive last longer than a flash drive?
I'm a first time user. Checked out the program after reading about it in a PC magazine that I found in my hotel room.
Downloaded and installed the Standard_1.0 program, and when I click on StartPortableApps.exe I get an error message "PortableAppsMem.exe has generated errors . . . " and it quits, saying it generated an error log, which I can't find. There's an Autorun.inf file. Should the menu start automatically when I insert the USB drive? (it doesn't) Not having the menu isn't important, it's just that if it's there, I'd like it to work.
Is there a way to execute the PortableApps backup facility from the command line rather than by clicking "backup" in the menu?

I encountered this application and found it quite useful. Siince it's from Hong Kong, it is pretty popular in East Asia region. The description on the website says, "WinMEnc is the free GUI frontend of mencoder. It can convert any media format to the AVI file with the format of mpeg1/mpeg2/DivX/Xvid/H264, etc." Even though it does not have as many options as MediaCoder, I think it is more straight forward to use.
alright i have a program that brings up three different programs in the menu, example SciTE when i added it to the portable apps, it added SciTE, appstop, and two others, and i only want one the SciTE, so i tried to make an exe that would launch the SciTE, making my exe the only one to show up, it is a visual basic program, i named added icon tried everything i got it to work outside of the portable apps menu but when i looked into the portable apps menu it had a blank exe that had no icon or name, that was my exe that i made, is there any way to make an exe that would show up like any of t
I have just extracted the portable apps suite to my usb drive and have a heap of uni work I want to add but I would like the folders to display on the portable apps menu. The answer to this question is probably here somewhere but I couldnt find it Can someone please help me Thanks Heaps Sassy
Since most if not all USB Flash drive fail after so many reads/writes. My question is how does one know when that limit is almost reached? I mean I always have good backs up my data but is there any way to really tell or do you just have to wait for USB Dooms Day? Maybe like a software app that can tell how many reads/writes have been made on a given flash device?

MrChris
After downloading, when I click on PortableApps_Suite_Standard_1.0.exe, I get the following error message from 7-Zip: "PortableApps_Suite_Standard_1.0.exe is not a supported achieve". I had no trouble loading the Base version. What is the way around this problem?
