A flash drive is conventionally recognised in Windows as Removable, but there are advantages to getting it recognised as Local, like the built in hard drive and external IDE drives.

...Hey guys & gals, here's one to puzzle over:

I DLd some Linux ISOs onto my sister's PC a cpl days ago, and put 'em on my 4 GB thumbdrive by way of "moving" 'em there.
I went home to transfer them to my own PC, and while the File Mgr recognized that they were on there and told me their (correct) filesizes, it refused to move them on over to my PC. It generated an error message that the files were "corrupt" and "unreadable", advising me to run scandisk/checkdisk on the thumbdrive.

Old news, I'm aware, but I wanted to see your thoughts on this.

Apparently, Microsoft is teaming up with Sandisk to develop (or replace) U3 to make it more customizable.

"The new offering will be designed so that users can carry their personal computing environment — including a customized and familiar user interface, applications and data — on a flash storage device such as a USB flash drive or flash memory card."

Hello everyone.

I wanted to know if there is an order to make it possible to open portable apps when he is launched? When I launch it it to create me one 2ieme menu but I just wish to open the window. It is possible to prevent the multiple opening of portableapps?

How to make so that on an external hard disk portableapps launches out automatically without having the Windows window which requires of me what I want to make, to make as for CD?

I'm sure this has been asked before but I wanted to be totally sure:

- is there anyway one can use TrueCrypt (www.truecrypt.org) on a Windows machine without administrator privilidges?

On my USB stick I have a good size TC partition with all my data, but when I go to the computers at school I can't do anything with it as I don't have admin privilidges on those computers.

My public library has figured out how to prevent Portable FireFox from running in their public computers. Sigh....

They have a Novell Apps Launcher network, and when I double-click the app on the USB drive, two popups says App has benn terminated (one for the launcher and one for FireFox).

Not that anyone can do anything here, just venting.

Just two questions...

As you now, there is an "AppInfo" subfolder inside "App" folder... What do the files there? I mean, are they necessary to run the PApp?

and the second one is, Every PApps is divided in two folders "App" and "Data"... Is it possible to put every PApp together sharing the same two folders? I mean, Can I have all my profiles in one folder and all my PApps in another one? ... I tried before but "AppInfo" keeps overwriting other Apps appicon.ico and appinfo.ini

Hey everybody. Just a quick question. I work for a company that doesn't exactly give everybody admin rights. U3 drives work no problem, but I'm not sure about this program. Just haven't tried it yet. I do know tried to run trilian on my work computer from a jump drive, and it would not work (although it works on my other 2 pcs, so I doubt it's a registry issue). What I'm thinking is that my work may have blocked the ability to run executables. Is the launchpad on a U3 drive an .exe or is it a different file type?

I'm sure that this is answered somewhere here and I've been looking for days, but How do I load other Apps on my thumb drive and have them show up on the menu? Not the approved ones but other portable apps.

I tested several ide`s / programing languages and I would be interested what is your favorite one (for desktop/client programs)?

I tested recently....

* C++: with dev-cpp

- you may compile your source under linux aswell too
- not bad, better then the PellesC ide
- much better then just notepad and gcc
- not that productive like visual studio
- complicated compared to C# and script languages like ruby

* C# .net, VB.net with visual studio 2005
