General comments about my recent experience:

1. WOW!!! This thing is unbelievable!!!

2. The initial loading/install window indicates that the process may take up to 15 minutes;
a. it should note that it may take that long before the status bar begins to move/display!
b. what the heck is it doing that takes so long!!!! Holy cow!!

3. The version of Firefox in the suite is not current.

4. The version of Clamwin in the suite is not current.

The portable apps don't work very well with restricted users.

My configuraiton is as below:

WindowsXP Home Edition
PortableApps all installed in C:\Program Files

Portable applications (such as Writer) failed to close when it was launched by a non-administrator user.

This doesn't happen to administrator user. What is the cause ?

This also doesn't happen when the files are installed somewhere other than C:\Program Files

Does anyone has a solution ?

Can someone tell me how I make a directory in Documents. I see in Documentens: Music, Pictures, Video and Explore. I like to make my one directory here for Utils.

Does anyone run solely the Portable Apps suite from a cutdown version (nlited) of XP and what are your recommendations of what to retain as a mimimum operating system. Would appreciate your feedback. Cheers

How would one go about doing this?
I was thinking of creating an app that mimics John's "StartPortableApps" program, but instead, there would be one for each information-sensitive app: firefox, keepass, and gaim. These shortcuts could be placed in the portableapps folder (allowing them to appear in the menu) and when clicked on, redirect to the actual app in the truecrypt volume?

btw, i'm planning to autorun truecrypt (on custom u3 drive) to ask for a password if i want to allow access to those programs, while at the same time starting up the PA menu

I downloaded portable apps and some programs but as I don't have admin rights at work I can't run any exe files so it won't load. Is there a way around this?

Is it possible to run U3 apps on other devices then U3 sticks (non u3 stick or harddisk)?

I did not found a portable Gpgee and I don`t think that it exists. I need some tool to check pgp signatures for downloaded files. What could I use instant? Engimail doesn`t support that.

Forgive me if I am ignorant of the available information, but I had a curiosity of whether it is possible to, say, use just OO Writer or Impress? It would be a real help if anyone could get me a list of the files required for each of the programs to work.

I think everyone (techies mainly) should buy U3 Flash Drives not for the launchpad itself, but for the autorun mechanism. After growing quite bored with the bulky u3 launchpad, i've explored the art of cd partition replacement. By doing this i have been able to:

&
Autorun an encrypted volume
