USB Drive keeps wanting to format when I try to open

Submitted by Glohamar on January 14, 2007 - 5:11pm

Seems I have screwed up. I edited the Autorun file and now eveytime I try to get into the drive I get a message that states it is not formatted and do I want to format. I click No. Is there anyway to get by this? I have tried to use the command prompt to copy the files, but I get an error.

Is there anything I can do, or am I just going to have to bite the bullet and take the loss of the info on the drive?

Are you planing your big comeback with an beautiful ap as known of you or is this project going to die?? This shouldn't sound like a Reproach, but I was just sadly I heard nothing of new apps for more then 2 months. Come back, please!

Apps keep "disappearing" off my usb drive

Submitted by mike366 on January 13, 2007 - 12:52pm

This just started happening. I remove the usb drive per normal, plug it back in later, one or more portable apps are gone, ie, I still see then entry in Pstart, but no icon. I go to explorer to look within the specific app directory for the files, and all the files are gone. This happens randomly and with differing apps. There are no viruses on the usb drive. Thx for any help.

Software Virtualization?

Submitted by rc1ark on January 12, 2007 - 10:56pm

Hello everyone - New PortableApps user here & so far I love it!

I recently saw this article about a program that can vitualize software and I wonder if it is something that might be able to be used portably. Here is the link to the article:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1941377,00.asp

Has anyone else seen this? I think it's cool how it can redirect registry calls to itself and I'm thinking something like this could be really useful. Any thoughts?

YES, Limewire & Frostwire are portable straight from the box

Submitted by John Wayne Goodin on January 11, 2007 - 3:22pm

Did you realize Limewire & Frostwire are portable straight from the box?
Just copy their installation folders to folders on your USB memory stick.

The only needs are the machine they're running on must have a resent version of JAVA installed.

Only a few minor issues

Start either from the .JAR file (frostwire.jar, limewire.rar.)
Both will have you go thru the options setup every time they are run.

Just be sure in both to point to a location on your stick to download to and goto options in both and have them shutdown immediately and not show a icon in the system tray.

"New" in forum topic disappeares

When I haven't been logged in for a while, I always see the threads that where updated or answered to marked as "new". Then I can click on the "new" and it leads me directly to the new post.
But when the thread is longer than one page (like the "Whats on your portable?"-thread), it doesn't jump to the next new post.
Why?
Can it be fixed or is it drupal?

New launchers are now not running processors, how come?

Submitted by twnty3svn on January 11, 2007 - 5:27am

I just noticed, and I'm not sure how long its been like this, but how is it that the launcher no longer runs as a process? Is this because the launcher does not make any modifications to the registry, or clean up any files on exit?

Also is there a way to make the launcher use less memory? Currently the PAT 1.4.1 uses about 7mb memory.
