Import own data from ESR Firefox to normal Firefox?

Submitted by Dirki on February 11, 2019 - 9:16am

I have the newest Firefox ESR browser (to go on using some extensions not available for the normal Firefox) and consider to better use the normal Firefox now and to not to use the incompatible (for the normal Firefox) add ons anymore. Is there a reason to not to change the ESR Firefox with the normal one?

How could I import / get all of my data to a normal Firefox? Is it enough to just copy the profile folder from the ESR to the normal one or to copy the the normal Firefox over the ESR?

How do I set environment variables for a portable app that already exists?

Submitted by Ben321 on February 1, 2019 - 2:47am

I can't use launcher.ini because that is only for making a NEW portable app, not configuring an existing one. I've already tried creating a BAT file contains the environment variable setting command in one line like "set PATH=%PATH%;C:\MyPath", and then executes the portable app launcher in next line like "FirefoxPortable.exe". Unfortunately it seems that environment variables set in a BAT file, do not get passed from the portable app launcher to the actual app's EXE file (in this case firefox.exe).

CDex, Autoruns and Process Explorer cannot be installed

Hello everyone,
I have encountered this problem. For more than a month now, CDex, Autoruns and Process Explorer cannot be installed. I`ve tried on many computers and of course haven`t fixed the problem since this is clearly a corrupted file problem. I have come here to signal this problem since portableapps.com haven`t fixed their downloads for over a month (I have also seen a thread about Process Explorer being corrupted dating from december 2018)
Thank you for your time.

hi
awhile back when you did an update of your portable apps you would
just click update and they where downloaded and installed, now
you click on update and they are downloaded and then you have to
manually click every program to install, my last update had 78
new programs and i had to click on every program at least twice,
how can i change this to do it automatically so when i get back
it is all done, i dont have to site doing a heap of clicks
to install

Opinions on new Windows Sandbox

Submitted by djking101 on January 11, 2019 - 11:17am

I was thinking that a system like this could do wonders for portable apps, like Flatpak on linux could do. Any apps which need to modify the system like VirtualBox could be installed in a sandbox, and we end up having it come out in a window, not a desktop with that window!.

What are your opinions?

Controlling PCs

Submitted by PortaGuy on January 6, 2019 - 10:43pm

Hey guys,

I, and many other users, appreciate the time and trouble you've taken to create this useful approach to software.

Having said that—really, what is there to be gained by preventing people from running portable apps from wherever they want to, including their Program Files folders?

I know you started this project so that people who maintained multiple PCs could run software from their own flash drives—and that's great.

Java licensing query

John,
I recently read some guidance which states Java v8 u161/u162 is the last to be genuinely free for non-commercial use. I haven't had the chance to review the fine detail yet, but given (1) JRE underpins such as LibreOffice and (2) you've already released JRE 8u181 I wondered what you saw the position as?
