A few notices and suggestions from a new user

Submitted by AbsolutelyRandom on March 22, 2019 - 9:41am

Hello!
I recently discovered this forum and its great community Smile

I have found PortableApps program enormously useful for a kind of user like me but here are a few of my notices (and suggestions) for the developers of this great website.

1. Some programs in PortableApps are 32-bit only while there are 64-bit versions available, such as:
> GIMP
> FileZilla
> Notepad++
> MirandaNG
> CrystalDiskInfo
> IrfanView

Google Chrome Portable 64-bit Stable (Test) 73 (latest version offered by PortableApps.com) isn't manually updating extensions

Submitted by Noob Newbie on March 17, 2019 - 5:38pm

So dev mode is already enabled in the extensions page and when I click on "Atualizar" ("Update" in English), all I get is a message in the bottom left corner of the screen with the text "Atualizando..." ("Updating...") that never goes away (unless I close the tab and open it again). But the outdated extensions don't get updated by this way. I know because today there was released a new version of "The Great Suspender" extension and on my Chrome it still didn't get the update although I'm trying to manually update.

Is it possible to have an "eternal" Google Chrome portable immune to all updates?

I have Google chrome set up perfectly, it's very complex with settings and a whole bunch of extensions...

I don't want updates to screw things up for browser settings AND extensions that may stop working or get buggy with updates in the future.

So I want kind of a Google Chrome Portable in a cocoon, impervious to future changes !

Is this possible? What settings on Gchrome to disable ALL updates, make it impossible to change.

And for extensions, if they are simply browser based, will fetching then in a folder in original form with CRX extensions work?

Help me set up use cases

Dear all,
Could you help me set up these following use cases please?

1. On a multi-user environment, if I install PortableApps (PA) for all users, does PA create different user profile/setting for each user?
In particular for Chrome, should I install regular Chrome or in PA, so that each user shall have a distinct profile?

Need help portablizing Caves of Qud for personal use

Submitted by xxxan00bisxxx on March 14, 2019 - 12:49pm

Basically, to make the steam version of Caves of Qud portable, all you need to do is knock out the steamapi.dll and use the commandline parameter -savesomethingorother with a location. / will start at the root of the current drive. The trouble is, I'd like to register the bat file, or possibly even cmd, with the start menu so that I can launch it directly from portable apps menu. Please help.

Google Chrome: how to save user data in the Portable App folder?

Submitted by magnum2000 on March 14, 2019 - 9:47am

Hi All,
I have installed Google Chrome portable on a BitLocker drive protected by password to avoid users not authorized (i have a domain PC) to access my Google session with all saved password.
Even if the App is installed as portable, seems that all users data and customizations are saved in local AppData folder in Windows.
So if a user access to my Windows session and install a standard version of Google Chrome, it automatically has all my saved data.

It's possible to completely isolate Chrome in the portable folder?

Thanks
